It's really strange.  It is made of rubber and the back of his head is flat, like those busts that are wall-hangings.

They're different, that's for sure.  Used to have a Spider-Man BBI bank too.  Same "half head" style

The "fluorescent eraser" type heads are not vintage, but new.

How new? Are there any vintage erasers?

Not that I recall seeing.

I think the fluorescent erasers started popping up in the 90s at toy shows and Toy Shop. There was a shop openly selling them as new "retro" product, like a Johnson-Smith type place. I always kinda shunned them, esp at the time because there wasn't much interest in the old ones and they could be had cheap enough. I just have never bought any, though I've seen hundreds.

Thanks for the info! I always assumed those were as old as the plastic ones.

The clear hard plastic ones are new too, as I believe any are that appear retooled.

"Clear" hard plastic? As in, see through? I don't think I've seen those.

In the late '90s I bought a set of 4 of these fluorescent erasers from Toy Shop seller M&J Variety for a cheap price, like $3-$5.

M&J Variety may be the dealer Bob was referring to. I also bought a set of 4 of the blue hard plastic pencil toppers for the same price. M&J Variety sold lots of cheap monster toys for cheap prices back then. They're still in business, but the prices have substantially increased on what little product they still have from the '90s.
I remember they were selling the Uncle Milton beige Marx UniMon repops 3 sets of 6 for around $50. They also had the Best Plastics "Palmer" flats in pink and blue for a cheap price, like around $9 for a set of 7. They specialized in bulk warehouse finds and newer repops like those smaller monster pencil toppers in rubber and hard plastic, but they had a little of everything.
ALWAYS MONSTERING...

Probably referring to these:

They came in all the usual colors:  Blue, Green, Red and Yellow.  I'm not remembering any absolutely "clear" ones...

Don't look familiar? So, the original ones are the opaque plastic or the painted opaque plastic. I'll bet there's a lot of the newer ones being sold as '60s vintage on eBay.

Monster Bob, that sounds like a question for you!   I too think that the solid colored ones are from the 1990's.   I think the only authentic vintage ones are the face painted ones and the chrome ones with face paint.

I still love the solid colored ones, especially the intense blue tiny frankenstein that is arriving today!    I better join flickr so I can post.

I also am in agreement about the rubber eraser versions, I shun them too LOL.

This is why I think the solids are new as well because they are shown with the clear colored ones here on ebay
