And if you could afford to eat at a 4 star restaurant every night, you'd stay home and eat mac and cheese.

No but I would still cook my own meals 5-6 days a week, including Mac and Cheese. That's just me.

Well, I guess we now know who the only person who would do that is.

If I had loads of money---I would probably do this for at least a year. So it would be a bit before I spent any of it.

Nope. Lottsa people I know are like this. I had a friend back in the day who had a good job as a chemist for a well known hair care co.
He would come over with a 6'er of Pabst on Saturday night saying he couldn't afford the GOOD stuff. A year later he laid down 30 G's on his town house. It's called adult sensibility when finances are involved.

Almost 10 years ago my mom passed away leaving me and my siblings with substantial $. I did blow several grand on DVD sets , high end beer, a dozen high quality masks and full sized props..I told my wife it was a one shot I would never be able to do again ( I bought her a ring to shut her up ) then the adult kicked in. There was a guy a mile away with my GRAIL car. a 72 El Camino purple on black, a giant Hot Wheels. It was worth 20K and he was asking 14K. I looked and looked and looked and I passed. I put 7K down on a new Toyota 4x4. A few months later I refinanced my house, paid off my truck and put the top of the line siding on my house. No fun vehicle I have wanted since a kid or $$$$ monster figures. Spend responsibly. If I had gone crazy I would have woken up with my wife stabbing my eye with a Pop-Top witch.

>I had a friend at work that ended up getting divorced. Instead of splitting the price of the Townhouse he let his ex have all the proceeds so she wouldn't go after his Hot Wheels collection worth conservatively $50,000.  She bought a mobile home. He had none and lived in the basement of a friends house. He had a beater car. He also had a MIB 60's KING KONG playset , A complete MIB Batman Utility belt. as well as several other upper end items. He refused to sell any of them and was bumming $ from me for gas $.<

Lester, that is a form of madness. And your friend is far - very far - from the only example of that madness that I've heard of.

>Spend responsibly.<

Wisdom hard to beat.

I have a friend going thru a divorce. He's a huge He-Man and MOTU collector. He has said his soon to be ex can have everything. Except his coillection.

Well this conversation has gotten waaaay far away from a guy being able to sell something for what he thinks it's worth without somebody telling him he's wrong.  Think I'll go join a conversation where people like stuff.

[/quote I went to the world famous Spago's for my girlfriend's company Christmas party, and I would have so much preferred some good, thick mac n' cheese.

Mike-

It's grand to like stuff.

Ambition is like a frog sitting on a Venus Flytrap. The flytrap can bite and bite, but it won't bother the frog because it only has little tiny plant teeth. But some other stuff could happen and it could be like ambition.
