Ah! Midnite Movies. My favorite movie collection! (The Universal movies weren't really just one collection.)
The Midnight Movie collection was such a cool idea. I tried to collect
'em all.

I'm still missing a horror dbl and a biker dbl.

My idea of a "complete collection" is one copy of each movie, as opposed to all of the VHS tapes, all the single movie DVDs and all the double feature DVDs.

I like the Midnite Movies collection, and have just about all of them on my shelves as either single or double features. Their biggest shortcoming is the lack of special features for most of them. Usually you would get a trailer and the "Fun Facts" and that was about it. Some had an interview but not usually.

I like the other DVD series' special features a lot more, like the "Hammer Collection" from Anchor Bay, and the "EuroShock Collection" from Image.

Eventually I sold the Midnight Movies on VHS, and kept the DVDs.

88 Films again, did an excellent job on one of their latest releases. "Children of the Corn" trilogy which is number 13, 14 and 15 of their "Slasher Classics Collection" looks and sounds great. Part 1 has a very informative feature "The Life, Legacy and Legend of Donald P. Borchers" the films producer. After watching it I was even more creeped out by the Isaac character (John Franklin) because at the time of filming, that 12 year old looking little boy was actually 25, thanks 88 I didn't think I could be more creeped out by Isaac. Part II has the original work print which I thought was a nice touch and part III extras finish with the "Return to the Corn: The Reinvention of a Feature Franchise", amongst others.
Remember everyone, stay away from those damn creepy kids that follow the words of he who follows the rows, or something like that lol.....

If you haven't watched the directors cut of 1408 then you haven't seen the movie. It's just over 8 minutes longer than the theatrical version and a whole lot better in my books. This region B German edition has both cuts in German and English and is loaded with special features, not to mention great looking video and crisp audio. Also, you can rest easy, there's no forced subtitles, they can be removed with your remote control. This movie scared me the first time I watched it and I'm sure it'll scare me the next time as well. Over 50 people have died naturally or have committed suicide in this hotel room, what did Mike Enslin (John Cusack) expect, "The New York Rockettes".....
Remember, you'll need a region free blu-ray player to view this edition of 1408.

I liked the theatrical cut. Guess I'll have to check out the D cut, sometime.

I picked up the 2 disc Collectors Edition DVD used on Amazon for $4.00. It has both versions and the picture quality is very good. Great movie!

Speaking of John Neville, I finally picked up a copy of "Unearthly Stranger". Another classic Brit sci-fi movie! Can't wait to see it again! Want to get "A Study in Terror", too!

I've never heard of these films but "The Legend of Blood Castle" looks like a movie that I would really enjoy, it's going on my wish list. Thanks.

Another movie I've never heard of, but I'll make room for. You can never go wrong with British sci-fi, one of my favourite genre's.

Legend Of Blood Castle is great Spanish Horror from Jorge Grau. I checked on the MYA DVD and it utilizes the "clothed" version. Memph, do you know if the Sinister Cinema version has the nude scenes intact, or is the clothed alternate version?

Currently I just have that film on a DVD-R that I burned from an old VHS tape. The picture quality isn't great, but it does have the nude scenes intact. This film is pretty obscure, and I'm not sure if there is a version available on DVD with the original nude scenes. I'm not perving out here, I just prefer films the way the director intended, not "softened" for the Spanish censors of the time. Of course, the optimal version would have the clothed scenes as a special feature the way the BCI/Deimos Spanish Horror DVDs did. Too bad BCI never got to this one.
