I watched this for the first time last night and thought it was fantastic. The colours really blew me away not to mention the costumes. I can officially say I'm on a Mario Bava high and will be looking to buy more of his flicks.
The next movie on my watch list is Roger Corman's "X" The Man With X-Ray Eyes.

This flick is worth having for the ending alone. WOW, I still can't believe it ended the way it did.

The Hammer blue-rays are very cool. They're starting to release more and more Hammer blue-rays in the states too. I don't have problem with my Hammer dvds, but I'm tempted to upgrade.

Just upgraded from my old DVD. "Vault" was the edited PG version on the original DVD release. This new Blu_ray release restores it to it's original R rated theatrical version. Another winner form Shout/Scream Factory!

Just upgraded to Frankenhooker Blu-Ray and bought the region free Steel Book Basket Case Trilogy Blu-Ray from a seller in the UK. Surprisingly there is no US version of this set.

I find that happening more often. There's a lot of great stuff that American companies don't feel like releasing. Region free is the way to go. I don't think they've even released that great, restored "(Horror of" Dracula in the U.S. yet (let alone "Basket Case").

Your right Mord and unfortunately the UK Horror of Dracula Blu-ray isn't region free so you would need an all region player to watch it here. They did release the first Basket Case on Blu-ray in the US but not the sequels (DVD only) which are a hoot! I don't know if you've seen them but they are nuts. But what do you expect from Frank Henenlotter.  ;D

I loved the original "Basket Case", but I haven't seen the sequels. What I meant by region free is the player. Once you get one of those, you can watch anything. I just think that American companies want to gear everything to digital downloads. That way, they can charge you without having to provide you with any physical content. I hate that idea. As a collector, I want to have something in my hand that is tangible. I miss the elaborate booklets they used to include in DVDs. Hell, I would settle for a sheet with chapter stops & poster art.

The sequels had a bigger budget and it shows. Like the Evil Dead series the sequels incorporated more humor but were just as weird. I'll never forget the love scene between Belial and his female counterpart.  :o

Absolutely, not only do you not get any inserts anymore but I also hate those cases with the cut outs on the front and back to save plastic.  >:( I was looking at my original Basket Case DVD and the case that thing came in was like armor! Super thick and heavy. All my older DVD cases are like that. I will say however that disc prices have dropped significantly since the format was first introduced. I can buy the Blu-ray of most of my movies for less than I paid for the original DVD release. I guess that's the trade off.
