Wondering if anyone can help identify an old hand puppet toy I vaguely remember. Would have been on sale around 1970 or 1971 if my memory is worth a damn. It was a hand puppet with a purple and green monster/alien head, sharp teeth, lumps all over the face/head. Ringing any bells?

Barlow

Definitely not the one. The one I'm thinking of had a larger head, two fangs I believe, and the head either had purple and green color or something along those lines.

Barlow

I can narrow it down some. It was currently on the shelves at Bargain Town at the time, and it couldn't have been earlier than 1968 or 1969, and definitely before 1973. So it had to have been in production at some point during that time. I could swear the head was plastic, and it looked like a cross between some sort of alien and some sort of monster. The head was studded, so to speak, or had bumps all over it. I seem to remember the colors purple and green, and fangs of some sort.

Barlow

Well, I came across this today:

And it's really tugging at my memory. It looks very close to what I'm remembering, although I could swear I had one that was green and had two larger fangs. I'm almost sure I had this, just not sure it's the memory I'm trying to remember. Does anyone know if there was anything very similar to this, almost identical to this, that was out for sale around the same time (1970)? This may well be what I'm remembering and it's just that the details have faded with 45 years of time passing by. So...anyone know of a very similar looking monster toy around that era, different colors?

Barlow

I understand the back of this toy is turquoise, so maybe that's where the color issue is coming up?

That puppet is ORSON or Seymour (Of "Orson and Seymour") Sidekicks to WITCHIPOO from the late 60s Saturday Morning TV show H.R. PUFNSTUF.

The purple one may have been Witchiepoo's other henchman, Stupid Bat.

No, there was never a stupid bat puppet from PUFNSTUF. The other would have been a VULTURE. Again, Orson or Seymour- I can't remember which was which. He (The vulture) would have been more "purple" than the one (spider-esque with multiple arms) you pictured. That said, do you think these puppets are the one you were thinking of? The other PUFNSTUF puppets were PUFNSTUF (Dragon), JIMMY (boy), WITCHIEPOO and CLING AND CLANG (Twin Characters somewhat based on KEYSTONE COPS.)

Orson was the vulture, Seymour was the spider. Seymour was played by Billy Barry (who also played Googy Gopher).

Bit of thread resurrection here but I thought someone had found it, and that I had gotten a pic of it, but apparently not. I could swear I found a pic of this item at some point but I can't locate it if I did. I may try to Photoshop a rough image of what I remember of it. That might make it easier to identify.

So the puppet for which you're looking wasn't Orson or Seymour?

???

Collecting! It's what I do!

Barlow

I kept finding this version of Seymour:

Which doesn't look the way I remember it. But this version, with the all plastic head, rounder, looks almost exactly like I remember it:

Except I could swear it was had green and purple coloring. I wish I could find a better pic of this 2nd version. Does anyone here have one?

Barlow

Unless there was a very similar toy out at the time that looked that way, the 2nd version of Seymour is probably what I'm remembering. The eyes look correct, just I seem to remember different colors.

Do you mean larger?
