Missdrac got me to thinking about poems
« on: May 29, 2014, 12:50:17 AM »
Lightning streaks the sky,
flaring flashing
Electric angels climbing down
Jacob's ladder

Ancient watchtower
crumbling creaking
once the site of knights and archers
Now an lightning rod stabs,
an angry rapier of science into the heart
of Nature

A pale face
Youthful, hubris
student of the unhallowed arts
working at midnight

His assistant
malformed misshapen
Shovels to earth, desecration
coffins cracked open

On the slab
sewn, stitched
bodies from
graves
the Gallows
Anywhere

Electrodes of steel
gleaming, glowing
Ethnics- What are they?
Lightning flowing

Under Beakers
Bunsen burners
Gauge-needles dance
Gears turning

In the sky, wind blows
Tempest thunders
One last warning from God
"Don't do this!"

Down the rod,
current to circuit
through the bolts
The body shakes

An eye twitches
a finger
a hand
an arm
reaches forth

The patchwork giant of corpse and carcass
mismatched, mangled
no blood no decay
just stitches

The maker
overpleased, overzealous
vainglorious pride
A gloved fist raised at the stormy skies
"It's alive! Alive!"

Dr. Madd, that is a masterful piece of creative writing you've presented to us--your words are expertly "stitched" and the result is not a monster in this case!  Well done, indeed!  As Karloff liked to say, "Full marks!"

Since I'm not one for feelings deep nor thought
Mere tears and hopes and fears impress me not.
To me good verse must have that metred rhyme.
So heed my words to pen a verse sublime!
Those poems without compelling rhythmic beat
With ne'er a rhyme to make the trick complete
If truth be told they're naught but vapid prose
Too often filled with cries of angst and woes.
But should you want your words to long endure
Inspiring minds and hearts of men obscure
Your words must flow as does a stream so swift
Which ripples deep within a valley's rift.
And if your words do skip with bright delight
Forever read they'll be by candlelight!
