1951. It's the illus. for Bradbury's short story The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms.  :)

"Oh that fiend waiter, he forgot my straw !" .
Always thought of this as more of a suspense mystery thriller than horror.
And also found that little lesbian action at the phone switchboard very puzzling.

If you think this isn't horror, you don't know jack!  ;D

Maybe. Just did not see the "horror". Did not get that feeling of fear, shock, or disgust. A little mystery murder and very little suspense.  Reviews differ.

I was just trying to be funny, of course, 'cause the real Jack the Ripper couldn't be any more horrific, gruesome, etc.! Very much toned down for his early screen appearances.

That was the USA title. It was "The Lodger" in the UK.

I missed the joke cause jack was not capitalized.  But I thought Hitchcock's silent was The Lodger...and then The Phantom Fiend.  Did not know the talkie was shown under both names.

I should have done that. Sorry! Rule of thumb. If you ever think I'm insulting you, it's a joke.

No worries.  But if that Elvey version was released under the name "The Lodger', I am missing a lobby card in my collection. The search is on !
