No, not a silent..and a few years after Mysterious Island..the genre name featured in the film had a good run of horrors the previous two years alongside a noteable mad doctor and iconic monster.

The face keeps reminding me of a large-nosed, blonde actor that played a father in a TV series in the 50's or 60's.
