This was a Halloween special, purported to be an actual paranormal investigation. The hoax led to massive complaints to the BBC. It has never been repeated in the UK.
It's a fun watch, even if they don't quite stick the landing.

OK. It looks as though this one isn't as wel known as I'd thought. It's Ghostwatch (1992), a Halloween special purported to be an investigation into a haunted suburban house. Viewers thought it was real. It has a low budget precursor to Light Night with the Devil feel.
