The Misfits and Rob Zombie's music is definitely horror/monster related (not to mention Rob's videos and stageshow) but I've never considered KISS to be a horror/monster band.  Both them and Alice do have some horror related songs and Alice's stageshow is run like a classic spookshow though.  That being said none of them really need to be a part of this forum.
Alice Cooper was in Monster Dog as well as having a cameo appearance in Prince Of Darkness. He had Vincent Price do narration for Black Widow. Some of his songs include Ballad Of Dwight Frye, Teenage Frankenstein, Feed My Frankenstein, The Man Behind The Mask (Jason V.), Prince Of Darkness, and Black JuJu, among many other songs which have specific horror links. Alice Cooper is all monstered up.  cl:)
ALWAYS MONSTERING...

How is that not an ethnic joke?

I apologize .. I do dislike all Texas teams and having lived in Texas and can certainly add that I don't like Texas pizza either.

And I did not really eat Kentucky Fried Kitten for lunch - too stringy.

Yep.  Notice I didn't completely discount Alice out, only KISS.   ;D

This, I feel is where the water gets muddy. Kiss' film does feature monsters and Don Post masks, so I can see a discussion on masks or films leading to Kiss. Likewise, I think for many of us who grew up in the 70's Kiss make a number of Halloween special appearances that could be remembered fondly and they were Copper (I think) Halloween costumes and had make-up sets devoted to them.

The Batman

Often once that people discover they enjoy each other, they like to discuss other things they have in common, to enjoy their connection & increase their contact with each other on other levels. They find other ways to enjoy their online friends.

aura of foreboding

I don't think the intention of all of this is to prevent discussions from developing in a natural manner.  Rather, the purpose is to stop off-topic threads in the first place.

If you want to make a post that outlines all of the Don Post masks that appear in the Kiss film, I don't think that's a problem.  If people tangentially discuss Kiss as part of the larger on-topic discussion, I don't think that's a problem.  The issue arises when someone starts a topic totally unrelated to Monsters (a la the latest episode of How I Met Your Mother) and the whole discussion revolves around that.

OK, we'll just change the name of the place to "Uncle Terry's Fun Time Anything Goes" board, where you can post about whatever strikes your fancy! Hope you like reading about cars, cats, cooking and croquet!
Mike, I think you may be the coolest of the moderators on this board, though I've had only small interaction with each of you.  I think you get to a good point, unintentionally.  Here's my thought: I get a few PMs every month, I got two today (I no longer receive email notices from UMA for at least a month, but I come here daily and sometimes see I have a message).  These messages are often from brand new members, people with 1 or NO posts.  It occured to me what you all must be aware of.  People don't come here to talk about croquet cats or cars.  They come looking for information about the Universal Monsters, monster movies, Universal Monster related toys and toymakers like Mattel, Ideal, Remco, Aurora, AHI, Mego, MPC, Jaymar... once persons discover and join the UMA, they probably, usually, later, find common interests among monster lovers, interests that may have nothing to do with monsters, but such persons feel comfortable sharing.

There is plenty of snark coming from your side of the fence too.
And it IS their site to make how they see fit. Not ours, we are merely allowed to post here as long as we follow the rules of this forum.
Thought policing? Are you kidding me? This isn't 1984!  No ones taking away any rights from you. No one is holding a gun to your head, if you don't like the way this site is ran you have every right to not post here. Then your thoughts cannot be policed.
Why keep arguing? Its done......make the best out of it or move on.
I'm sorry, Frankenstein73, but your posts in this thread, particularly this post, have come across a bit cloying.  Loyalty is a wonderful thing, but no one wants to be a creature.  Wich2 has been anything but snarky, though he had basically rebuked me in this thread, and rightly.  I misunderstood how my words were construed (oh crap, there's that word again).  I point this out because I think Wich2 is an honorable person.  I respect anyone who has standards or values.

That's why I don't eat Texas Chinese food or BBQ.
Flower, thank you for the laugh.  That was funny; you're kind to apologize for it, but I get it's less about the Chinese than it is about Texas.  Though in American culture we are a bit horrified by the things they eat in China (like dog brain soup) I do think your offense at the initial joke was unfair, it was just a joke after all.  And Toyranch's remark after all that was kind of funny too, but rude.  Sorry Toyranch
If you want to view Paradise, simply look around and view it.

Jeeze! I can't even keep up with this thread, anymore, and since my contributions have mostly been of the "grumpy old man" variety, I think I'll go post in the "Name This Monster Movie" folder.

I hope the mods and admins remember to save Unknown Primate's "King Kong vs. Frankenstein" thread. I was going to post the link, but General Discussion is already gone. I figured it could moved to Monster Literature, or preserved as read-only.

Ya see, this is why I posted the link in reply #226 about using archive.org to preserve the threads you like so they'll always be accessible online and the archived urls could be shared here. Everyone knew there was a housecleaning going on, and cleaning a house means tossing things out. If folks really wanted certain threads preserved they could have preserved them themselves in less than a minute. No point haranguing the mods to save things each person could have saved on their own.

Frankly I'm a little surprised at some of the things that are being saved here. The read-only items in particular are a category the mods should consider relegating to the archive website themselves. Why waste space on stuff that could be cleared from the forum, stored and made accessible on archive.org's dime?! Create a UMA "Archives" page that lists the urls where the webpages can be viewed and everyone except the chronic complainers ends up happy. No different than if the urls were for archived files stored on the UMA site, but they're not because it's time for spring cleaning! Bottom line: If you're gonna clean house, clean house.

As an aside, there's a tie-in here with the Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoon mentioned elsewhere in this thread. The archive.org website has named their search engine the Wayback Machine, a name derived from a contraption Mr. Peabody used on the Rocky and Bullwinkle Show. Guess that reveals that the folks at archive.org are imbued with the same sort of geekiness as most monsterkids. It's a perfect fit!

Except I have never seen that happen except in the proper boards. Literally every message board I have been part of (and that is a lot because of when I grew up) has a dedicated section to topics outside of its main area. I've been part of a Wrestling action figure message board for ten years because of this. Things go off topic? The mods move or lock the thread and it's no longer a problem. As someone else said, people start to get to know one another and want to discuss other things they have in common. Oops, no dedicated board to do that? Guess I'll move my conversation to a different website altogether. I'm not saying abandon monsters, God no, but by eliminating the sections you are BEGGING for off topic conversations in wrong sections and new members to be turned off.

I dropped by to see what the NEW & IMPROVED  UMA (tm) looked like.  Well, there certainly won't be any room for non-approved non-monster posts.  The one exception seems to be this thread, which will probably be locked and/or deleted soon.
Allhallowsday: you are too much of a gentleman. Cloying? Frankenstein73's posts were positively ass kissing.
And Flower: watch out!  Don't go insultin' TEXAS too much.  Toyranch was going to a Goblin concert.  And they were in Dallas tonight.  You might get yourself banned . . .
The few years I spent as a member of this forum were, for the most part, pretty rewarding. But the events of the last couple of weeks has convinced me that my decision to leave was the right one.

There are variations on Texas BBQ. Central Texas BBQ doesn't use sauce.

Kitten on a spit, would need sauce though.

Blasko, Blasko, Blasko...  You have got to be kidding me!  The UMA is renowned for tangential conversation in topical boards.  I have been party to dozens of such conversations in the Monster threads.  And they are loads of fun.  The mods here are not overbearing about tangents nor are they trigger-happy when it comes to deleting or locking threads.  They don't shut a thread down simply because it has veered off-course -- unless it gets ugly.  But between the crazy progression of on-topic threads and the off-topic forums, I think it's become too much to maintain.  I don't see how it would scare off new members.  It didn't scare you off, as I seem to recall you being involved in some of those fun tangents when you joined (though I cannot guarantee that you were, but I seem to recall you being around!).

I have been part of Draconian forums where any off-topic discussion in topical threads is strictly forbidden.  Posts are deleted, threads are locked, members are banned.  Needless to say, I don't frequent them.  If that were to happen here, I too would leave.  However, knowing what I know of the UMA, I don't foresee that drastic of a change.

I'm not saying it NEVER happens, but I was referring more to off topic thread starters than replies in the thread. Either way, it will be a bigger problem now that there is no right place to put those discussions. If they don't want off topic discussion then man up and do some moderating and move threads, delete posts etc rather than thinking taking away the sections where such topics are on topic will serve a purpose. I get the idea of eliminating off topic posts, but if I have nowhere to share something, now no matter where I post it will be off topic. The under, I'd say 35 MAYBE?, crowd is used to message boards having an off topic section to talk about things other than the boards main purpose. People here lament the younger generation's lack of love for monsters, yet they're about to be alienated. They would much rather go to another board and start a monster discussion than go somewhere that the conversation is strictly limited.
