Well.....I have to say I am not surprised.  The UMA will never be the same. As the Great Criswell predicts: In the year
2014, many members will be leaving this forum. Members:0.....Administrator (s) :1

I'm a big part of the problem too. Too many non-monster posts in comparison to monster posts. It is the truth that I have come to think of many members as family. But in every family there is a time to move on. I am sorry if I have been a disappointment....I will miss you all....but it seems for the best that I say farewell. The UMA has been an everyday stop for me....and I have nothing but very fond memories.
Bigbud, you posted where you felt most comfortable posting. Those threads existed for that very purpose! You don't have to be a raging monsteraholic to belong in the UMA. I still have way more "Star Wars" collectibles than I do monster-related items. (Except when it comes to my VHS & DVD collections.) Your posts were genuine and conversational. We're all misfits of some sort, here. Who are we to judge other misfits?

I think threads like those posted in the Members Only section that dealt with personnal issues was a very healthy thing for our family.  Like so many of you, I don't have a huge support system, but I know if I was down or needed help, I could count on UMA members for support.  Loving monsters is not only about the genre but about the people involved and the fans.  Sometimes heated discussions will occur, but that is all part of being human.  So what some non-monster related subjects were present, we all came for the main reason of our love of the genre.  Everything else was just icing on the cake and made us feel like we had someplace to go, away from the daily grind.

I know I haven't had much time as I'd like to post due to work and school, but when I did have time I felt at home.  It was like I never left and many people made me feel accpted in and out of the monster related threads.  This site became so much more than what is was, and evolved into something beautiful we could share with each other.

My heart sincerely aches at this administrative decision and for the people it will effect.  I must say that I can no longer be affiliated with a site that has such a cold administration to make these decisions without involving the people that make this site what it is.  I love each and every one of you guys and gals and wish everyone a blessed and healthy life for you and your family.

Goodbye.  :'(

Hug your seven pups for me.  You are a wonderful person .. keep  in touch.  Shalom

Before everyone starts leaving, why not wait until after the changes are made and see what difference they actually make?

You might still find enough that you like to make membership desirable.

Great Cthulhu, this is turning into the Rebelscum.com purge of 8/8/2008! Except, instead of a mass-banning, it's turning into a mass-migration. Now I feel even more guilty! If I'd just taken certain things between  to PM, instead of bumping heads in the thread, none of this would have been necessary. For that, I truly apologize.

What a novel idea! Why didn't I think of that? Probably because I didn't think I'd need to! Well, I've been wrong before. Thanks for the post, anyway, MFS, for all the good it will probably do.

A bunch of members also left awhile back when another hot button topic was pushed with regards to monster models. Only one I know returned. But thats because he's a super nice guy, and wants to make sure all us monster nuts know about Monarch Models's new offerings.

I am curious to see what comes of this.  This is more than just a website.... its a community for most.  I can see both sides of this. Some of the threads on here(even monster related ones) have devolved into being nearly or outright pornographic in nature. Some go south in a hurry with namecalling, etc. Last time I checked this was supposed to be kept professional, mostly all ages (or PG at the most), and focus on monsters.  With tons of new subsections, etc, etc, etc.....gotta be harder than it was to keep everything civil.

It's probably easier for the mods to actually moderate if all they have to do is flip through a few sections. On the flip side, some will feel they are losing part of what the website has become to them. There's always private messaging for that side of things tho. PMs arent moderated. So---instead of giving up the ghost: perhaps pm'ing for things like "what laundry soap do you prefer", "what's your favorite booze", or more serious musings such as the taboos of life, death, taxes, etc.....

I think I gave up telling people that, because they preferred everybody knew!

Well, I have no intention of leaving, but I do apologize to those that feel the need to leave because these non-monster sections are being closed. My collection scope is going to be very limited in the future, so I probably won't be posting a lot in those sections. I have seen many of the old classic monster movies, and just got six new ones to review in the mail for VideoScope. So, those are areas I can continue to contribute to, as well.

Maybe new sections can be opened for "Classic Horror Literature" and "Modern Horror Literature"? That way, the "So, Whatcha Reading?" thread can continue, just restricted to horror (and horror should be a broad enough category to include steampunk, splatterpunk, gothic romance, dark fantasy, dark adventure, etc).

I hope some other threads, like "How Did You First Get Into Monster Collecting?" and "What Was Your First Monster Movie?" will be spared, too.

I absolutely agree with Monsters for Sale. Wait for the changes, instead of leaving.

I think the Elvira thread should be moved to an active forums section, as she still has projects, merchandise, and con appearances.

I don't believe that this change is about any one person.

Some of the music threads contain a lot of info about current bands that are still recording and touring that play horror-themed or horror-inspired music, too.

Zirock, you are correct that the conversation began with your thread. However some other things came up, apart from your thread or the forum itself entirely, that led to the decision. It would have happened with or without that thread. So no need to feel any guilt over it.

I don't do PM wars.  YOU are correct, you should NEVER have posted what you did and here YOU are once again blaming others for your problems and actions.  ONCE AGAIN .. LEAVE ME OUT OF YOUR POSTS OR I'LL RESPOND. YOU ARE A DRAMA QUEEN AND NEED TO STOP USING MY NAME.I have NOT alluded to you or made mention of you.  YOU were told in your thread to stop mentioning my name or that I will respond.  NEVER PM me or mention me in your posts, I don't mention you and YOU keep bringing this up, knowing that I'll respond.

Flower, Hepcat was just telling us that people should simply not read things they don't want to read. That's very true, but both of you were in Zirock's thread reading stuff you didn't want to read and were criticizing. And I realize that he and you are different people and he does not speak for you, but both of you were going back and forth saying the same thing to Zirock.  (edited to not make a lot of sense any longer and end addressing Flower in this post)

As (I believe) Craig said, who are we misfits to judge other misfits?  Which is a big part of it (but not all, by any means). We misfits are socially awkward a lot of the time, and we admins and mods are ill equipped to deal with all of the extra-curricular stuff that goes on. Not only that, we most certainly don't want to. The people who play on the pity of others to get free stuff, making up imaginary circumstances. The people who have real circumstances and come to the UMA to find support for them from others who can't handle their own that well.

Some of us are who we are online. Others of us are who we want to be, or who we want others to think we are. If you are a trusting, honest person coming here to vent your feelings or find camaraderie that's great, but you are sometimes doing that as a sheep among some wolves (and I'm not talking about admins and mods here). There are going to be some really bad consequences if this continues on it's present track. We don't know what those are, and don't want to find out.

And even still, there are other major reasons that we cannot and don't need to go into.

Leave, stay, whatever you decide to do is up to you. If you were coming to the UMA for reasons other than monsters, and don't want to be here if it's just about monsters, you probably are best off leaving. We will miss you and it pains all of us to see that happen, but we do hope that it leads to changes in your life that are positive. If you decide to stay and talk about monsters, great!  Let's have some monster fun together!
