I'm not saying it NEVER happens, but I was referring more to off topic thread starters than replies in the thread. Either way, it will be a bigger problem now that there is no right place to put those discussions. If they don't want off topic discussion then man up and do some moderating and move threads, delete posts etc rather than thinking taking away the sections where such topics are on topic will serve a purpose. I get the idea of eliminating off topic posts, but if I have nowhere to share something, now no matter where I post it will be off topic. The under, I'd say 35 MAYBE?, crowd is used to message boards having an off topic section to talk about things other than the boards main purpose. People here lament the younger generation's lack of love for monsters, yet they're about to be alienated. They would much rather go to another board and start a monster discussion than go somewhere that the conversation is strictly limited.

No, it won't be a problem for us. If you don't want to post at the UMA anymore, then you shouldn't.  If you want to post about monsters at the UMA, you are more than welcome to do that. If threads wander off topic sometimes, that is as it has always been, and will continue.  If someone seems to be intentionally leading threads off topic just to be disruptive, they will be asked to stop. If they continue, they will be banned.  But I am talking about people who are intentionally trying to be disruptive, not people who are carrying on a normal conversation.

What does that mean?  Don't overthink it.  We are not going to be scrutinizing every thread or post. We aren't going to be changing our moderation style. We have not made any new rules, we just got rid of some forums. But trying to be disruptive will warrant a ban. We have not banned very many people over the years, aside from spammers. Maybe a dozen or so?

Allhallowsday, because I feel strongly about something the opposite of what you do does not make me a "creature".
And i will not hide behind words here so they cant be misconstrued.
You come off quite rude and as a bit of a baby.     My opinion of course.
Yes I am behind this decision of cutting out the non monster boards 100%. I havent posted here in over a year because this forum I felt had lost its way.  It is too bad because Many of the threads I have participated and enjoyed are being taken away because of the way people have handled themselves as of late.
Now if they had decided to take out all the monster threads instead, then I would have simply left, and not hung around just to stir things up.
I am merely stating the truth, its not your forum, its not my forum they can do what they wish to it.
It just so happens that I agree with it and you don't.
Feel free to rebut if you wish, but I will not see it as I will be joining my fellow monster  friends in more constructive thread's.  I hope everyone here can get past this so they can enjoy it with us.
Mirabile dictu,don't you agree?

If it is not a problem them there is no need to get rid of the sub boards. The fact that so many people are going back and forth, right or wrong, shows it may not be the best decision and there's no need to rock the boat so to speak with no cause.

Well, that is your opinion, and you are certainly entitled to it. Just as you are entitled to start your own monster forum and have all kinds of off topic forums. Here, we are not going to have them any longer.

And hey fair enough, you're absolutely right, it just seems out of left field and from an engagement perspective for new members, a bit perplexing.

Ya see, this is why I posted the link in reply #226 about using archive.org to preserve the threads you like so they'll always be accessible online and the archived urls could be shared here. Everyone knew there was a housecleaning going on, and cleaning a house means tossing things out. If folks really wanted certain threads preserved they could have preserved them themselves in less than a minute. No point haranguing the mods to save things each person could have saved on their own.
Except, I didn't think about that particular thread until after "General Discussion" was already removed. When I went to get a link or archive it myself, it was gone.

I didn't even know this was happening until I logged in today and saw the boards gone. I would recommend in the future pinning announcements so they can be seen on every board (if this system allows that. I know proboards can, but I'm not sure with this service).

So turns out it isn't gone forever. You can still access the deleted boards by going through your likes. You can even make posts :P good for anyone who has something that needs recovering.

All of the forums that were removed had announcements pinned to the top of them, for a week.  Whether or not you deem that sufficient, that is what was done.

There may be some of that until the tables are re-optimized.  They are not all gone forever yet because we intend to move some threads to Gen Disc and bring it back out as a read-only archive.  Then the rest will be gone for good.

Are you sure? I never noticed the announcement in any of those boards. Not sure what the attitude is about, but ok.

That's not the thread. This one was UP's attempt to tell the story Willis O'Brien and Toho Studios never got to tell: "King Kong vs. Frankenstein." It was in General Discussion. It was illustrated, as well as telling the story of the proposed film. Here are some of his illustrations.
