One of my all-time favorite movies is Stargate from 1994 staring Kurt Russell and James Spader.  I think the movie was well done and not overly set with special effects.  Also, it's a movie that make you think about the possibilities of the universe and all we don't know.

So for years I've been wanting to watch SG-1 from season 1, but haven't been able too.  Just today I asked a buddy of mine if he happened to have the seasons on DVD.  He has the exact same interests as me, so I should have know he would have them.  Well, I'm getting ready to watch the first few episodes of season 1.  I'll post my review as soon as I finish the first 2 or 3.

What's the general consensus on this show?

SG-1 seasons 1-8 are pure gold, but seasons 9 and 10 are boring as tin.  Love the Kurt Russell movie and the first 8 seasons of SG-1, but didn't care for the spin-off series of Atlantis or Universe.  I think by the time your viewing reaches the end of season two (really picks up a lot from 2 on), you'll be hooked on the series too.  Remember that the SG-1 storyline takes place a number of years after the movie.

I really enjoy the movie, I think it's one of the better science fiction movies made.  I watched the series for 3 seasons, then returned to college and my TV watching went down and I just never started watching it again when I could.  I would be interested in watching the series from the beginning again.

After watching the first 3 episodes I really think this is a cool show.  I like how it started off a year after the movie left off.  There is some corny parts, mainly with the military, but maybe I only realize it because of being prior military.  Only a minor gripe.  The sets, costumes, and characters are very good looking and make be believe in an other-worldy setting.  Can't wait to watch the rest.  But I've heard from many people, including those on here, that after season 8, the actor changes aren't that good and the story gets boring.
