It was touched to a spot on the bulb, causing it to light. Similar to getting a Christmas tree light to light using a 9 volt battery.

You mean it didn't light up in your mouth, like Fester's?

Unfortunately not. Maybe if you had braces?  ;)

Ah, heck!

Well, I can't say I'm as disappointed as finding out the 6' Frankenstein monster was only a poster!

Anybody know how those work, exactly? Do you push a switch with your tongue, or something?
I had a Fester bulb as a kid. From what I remember, you were supposed to put a penny on your tongue, then it lit up when the metal end of the bulb touched the coin. Can you imagine the lawsuits if this were sold today? Generations just get stupider and stupider.

Yeah, I suppose that could work?

It did (I'm pooping pennies to this day). I think the back of the box or a small instruction sheet told you to do that.

Lots of nice Aurora stuff! Especially love the store hangers!

Link won't take you directly there. Choose "monster/horror" from the dropdown list.

The newest Hake's Americana & Collectibles auction also features a nice selection of vintage horror pulp magazines, like this classic January 1932 issue of Strange Tales.

I like the cover. Not familiar with the artist (H. Nessosi ?), though.

All covers for this short-lived publication were painted by artist Hans Wessolowski, under his professional name of "Wesso."

Here's a link for a bit more about him.

Wow! I wasn't even close! Now I see that is a date (31) at the end of his name.

The Aurora hangers are pretty nice. The AHI catalogs are awesome, but I wish they had more monster content.

Have you ever run across Topstone catalogs?
