But could they have been sold to the Asian market?

But could they have been sold to the Asian market?

It doesn't look like they were marketed to that area, as the packaging is all in English.

I got one from seller cxdp77. Came packed as everyone has described. Took two weeks to get here to the west coast. Nothing broken, not even a nail. Nice little monster item for the price if it arrives in one piece.

That's nice! Was the package crushed?

The plastic dome has some dents but otherwise everything else was ok. Got lucky I guess.

Scary Terry

Got mine today. Shipped in bubble pack envelope as others have described. Figure very well wrapped in bubble wrap -- in perfect condition! Plastic dome has a couple dents -- but otherwise great. Figure seems to be glued at the waist -- but since I have no intention of ever using it in an aquarium -- no big deal. I do have a loose original, missing a few claws -- but am very happy to have this as well. No plastic fruit!

They seem to be getting better with packing. I have one in Chicago. Hope to get it Mon/Tue.

Nobody has gotten fruit in a while, it seems. Time to order mine.

Take a shot, man. It's worth it.

I got mine with some broken nails, but after a manicure and some red sharpie action it looks great. Those nails look better a little shorter anyhow, they're too long and thin normally. Mine arrived fully working too, not glued at the waist. Doesn't really matter though since mine is displayed on one of my monster shelves (next to my Remco Seaview), and it will never see the inside of an aquarium.

This is probably the only way I would have ever owned one of these since I never planned to pay anywhere near collector's prices for one, and the chances of tripping over one in a thrift store is remote. But, 18 bucks? Yep, it's worth the chance (which seems to be getting better with improved packing).

I was thinking of putting mine in a small fishbowl (dry) with the colored stones on the bottom and a couple of plastic fish on wires stuck in the stones.

I might actually put mine in a birdcage. It would make a nice conversation piece.

By the way, which dealer has the best track record of getting these out in good shape?

I think both of the people selling for $18 are the same person.

Trap-Door Maker

I just bit the bullet and purchased one, despite the damage risk. Something is appealing to me about the gamble (reminds me of the gamble of the old 25-cent machines and/or baseball card packs; hoping to not get a stinker). In this case, "damaged or not damaged?" is the thrill!

You, sir, are living on the edge!

Funny, that gumball machine analogy occurred to me when I ordered mine. I got fairly lucky with minor damage that was repairable. Here's to good luck in your endeavor...cheers.
