I just want to know, am I the only person here who totally disapproves of the Abbott & Costello versions of the classic horror flicks. I find them terribly cheesy and desperate for a laugh, and I think they put an awful damper one the classic horror originals! Hate me, curse me, go ahead, just needed to express that, lol

I thought A&C Meet the Mummy was cheezy and desperate for a laugh, but I love A&C Meet Frankenstein.  It is the movie that really introduced me to the monsters as a kid; and I will always have a soft spot for that film.

Getter_1

I used to love Abbot and Costello so I have no problem with the movies.  They are really cheesy but fun.  In fact, A&C meet Frankenstein is acting as the "gateway drug" for my son (7 years old), fueling his love of American monsters (he's already grown out of Godzilla and Gamera).

ScaryCreature

Well, natch they're going to be kinda "cheesy"...  after all, it's Abbott and Costello for heaven's sake.  But, in A&C Meet Frankenstein, the monsters were very well done and acted perfectly.  The monsters didn't act "camp" like in A&C Meet the Mummy (not one of my faves, but certainly funny in parts).

But, A&C Meet Frankenstein is at the top of the list because of the storyline, direction, cinematography, acting, comedy (and drama).  It was a very well done movie.  Give it another shot and try to look at it with a different perspective, I think you may be pleasantly surprised.

As far as anyone "ripping" you, nah, I don't think so.. everyone is entitled to their opinion and certainly some will disagree with me.

Anton Phibes

Abbott and Costello meets Frankenstein actually works the best as a vehicle for the three monsters . Much better than either  House of Frankenstein or House of Dracula.  They gave the Monsters more face time, treated them with respect, returned Lugosi to the Dracula role and made the Frankenstein monster more than just a breathing prop  as he was in the two previous vehicles.  As for the comedy its certainly more entertaining and funny than Una O'Connor's ear piercing shrieks. Nothing cheesy about this film with all that going for it.  Strange's most active portrayal as the monster too.  Now as for the rest of the films in the "monsters" series........well, at least Karloff is in a couple of them. ;D

Wolf Man

I will have to go with you on that one Phibes.  A & C meet Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde was a very well done film in my opinion.  A&C meet Frankenstein is also a great movie with lots of laughs but also some classic monster shots, consider the basement scenes in the castle.  I did not care for the Wolf Mans Finlay shots as he keeps getting tangled up in tree limbs and vines that looked like he did it on purpose.  Those could have been better shot but overall I think Chaney acted very well in this film as Talbot.

There were a lot of critics of the day who saw this as the end to the monster franchises and arguably that may have been true.  If it was indeed the bringing down of the curtain then it was not a bad way to do it.  I can't imagine how many more sequels or times they could have resurrected the monsters and the actors were getting older.  There could have been a sad pathetic way out for the monsters that was way worse than these films.

I am a big fan of A&C, but like ScaryCreature said--eveyone is entitled to their opinion.  For me, I can't work up even a spark for NOSFERATU despite the fact that so many people here love it.  Likes and dislikes can be all over the place and that's a good thing.  It gives the UMA diversity.

Yeah, I kind of enjoyed all the Abbot and Costello Universal Monster series. No complaints here and A&C Meet Frankenstein is one of my favs!

Say what you will about all the A & C Meets the Uni-monster flicks, but truth be known ,THESE are the movies that paved he way for Shock Theater and Famous Monsters magazine. We all know it was the one-two punch delivered by both of these entities that planted the seed for the 1960's monster craze. This site wouldn't even be here if not for them... I hope Forry sees this.

I love A&C Meet Frankenstein.  I think it's one of the top classics in the 30s-40s Universal horror series, bringing it to a fine close. I agree that some of the other A&C monster fests don't hold up well.

The Spangler

A&C meet Frankenstein is not only my favorite Abbott and Costello movie, but is easily in my top 3 favorite movies of all time.  My second favorite A & C movie has always been A & C meet the Invisible Man, which does a fairly good job of picking up the continuity of Universal's Invisible Man series as well. ( The Invisible Man scene at the end of A & C meet Frankenstein notwithstanding, however)

Wicked Lester

A & C meet Frankie is the best meeting of the monsters. However I pretty much can't stand A & C so if I ever catch this I turn the volume down till the monsters show up.

You shouldn't get ripped just because you don't like a particular film, Squeege. But perhaps we can shed a little light on the subject. I personally don't care for the ones that followed, but here's what I wrote not long ago about the first one:

Either way, I respect your right to not like!

Squeege, A&C Meet Frank is what I used to introduce my Daughter to Monsters.  It helps take the edge off of say the Wolfman when he is ready to tear out a throat.
