Before the internet we had to rely on the printed page to view Frazetta excellence. Here are all five of the Frank Frazetta art books published from 1975 through the '80s. I couldn't afford these back in the day but I remember looking through them longingly in various bookstores. I picked these up in one eBay auction a couple of years ago. The books are too wide for my scanner which failed to capture the extreme right edges, and caused much worse than normal scanner shadows. Images on the web are great, but will never equal experiencing a real book in your hands.

It's really hard to pick a favorite Frazetta painting. My favorite is Sea Witch. He leaves a lot to the imagination with this one. My mind reels at the horrors being called up from that malevolent maelstrom. Very Lovecraftian.

Post your favorite.

What first brought Frank Frazetta to the attention of many monster kids including myself was the iconic covers he painted for the early Creepy and Eerie magazines:

While I love Frazetta's landscapes and the mood he captures in his paintings, I just don't like the way he drew women.

Collecting! It's what I do!

I normally don't collect romance comics, but I made an exception for this little gem. This is Personal Love #32 from 1955. It has the Frazetta classic story Untamed Love. I usually don't scan interiors because of the stress it places on the spine, but this copy is only in FAIR (1.0) condition so I'm not too concerned about it lowering the grade . I'm just happy to have an original comic with such an iconic Frazetta story regardless of grade.

Thank you for the memories. I remember those art books well and other publications of those times, including Heavy Metal magazine. Good times!

I picked up a hardcover copy of Icon by Frank Frazetta a few years ago at Haslam's Books in St. Petersburg, Florida. It even had the clear plastic cover that protects the dust jacket. Fantastic book!

Legacy is another awesome book in the vein of Icon. I purchased my copy of Legacy from Bud Plant a few years ago. It's the signed and numbered slipcase edition. Mine is #2067 of 2500 copies and the signature is stamped in since Frank was having trouble signing at this point in his life. Beautiful book.

Testament is the third in the Fenner's Frazetta trilogy of art books after Icon and Legacy. I ordered my hardcover copy from Bud Plant many moons ago. As gorgeous as the first two books.
