Going through some old files, I found this "magazine cover".  There were other Ootmahs done besides me--anyone have the other mags-that-might-have-been?  lol

Neat!  I was an OOTMAH, but sadly, not published. ;)

Robert, you RAKE, you!

Andy, thought your avatar was you?

Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou, Craig!  I knew there must be some of these saved out there--do you recall how many were done?  Not more than 5 or 6, seems to me.

Andy, sorry you weren't immortalized!  lol  I think there were just these few done on a whim at the time--whose experiment was it, anyhoo?

Nah, I ain't that purty!

Those are really neat - you guys need to archive them in the gallery.  That is history.

Infact there were 14 of them done. I finished off the series on number thirteen, completed after #14 actually, however I officially numbered them in the order that I started them.  Penny Dreadful the thirteenth, was in fact the thirteenth.  On top of that I did rework  a couple covers as I got more familiar with them, although I never counted those.
Robert you have #1, issued for Robert Taylor Day.  I enjoyed doing them and would have done more, but it seemed that they had kind of lost their novelty and run their course. So I stopped.  I do have them all on file, and some people have hard copies.

Andy,  I'm sorry I didn't get to you, a big part of that was that I needed a fairly good picture to start with.  And in many cases profile pics were just non-existent.

If anyone is interested I can re-post them

1 Robert Taylor
2 Jeff McIntosh
3 Jim Frost
4 Linda Miller
5 Max Cheney
6 Craig Wichman
7 Mike Bennett
8 Rob Tullo
9 Terry Ingram (Special Edition)
10 Professor Griffin
11 Jane  Considine
12 Ray Castille
14 Bob Morris
13 Penny Dreadful XIII

Thanks again, Gary!

(Though my upcoming broad/webcast isn't of the Modern Prometheus variety, but has to do with my present avatar...)

Merriest,

Gary,
I would sure love to have the others posted here, if you have the time to do it.  I had forgotten there were that many--I was thinking about 6 or 7 tops!   They're beautifully done.  Seeing these now--the nostaglia-factor is really strong.

They ought to have a spot in the official gallery for the site.  Maybe when the basic monster toy pics are moved over and the dust settles, it could be done.  Kind of a little nod to the old days of the Yahoo group!

Thanks Andy and Robert, glad to see the schlock from the Phantom of the former UMA lounge is still being enjoyed.

Here's a couple more

#2 Jeff never submitted a profile pic and the group rode him pretty hard about it for a while.  Thus he was portrayed as/by the invisible man even though he eventually submitted a picture.  The only cover to have a Universal character on it and to break my rule of not making OOTMAHs into Uni characters (although you could argue that fact on Terry's cover).

#4 Linda actually got a trial cover before I really started making them which was the very first I did, but I was very dissatisfied with it and it is now lost to my private files to never resurface in the light of day (Unless someone else downloaded it in its breif existance).  The trial cover was done at the begining of her term, but it soon became the norm to do them at the end so as to document the conversations and any extras the acting OOTMAHs offered during their term.  This cover is also somewhat experimental as it was the only cover to feature the Lon Chaney Jr. corner tag containing the month of her reign.

The art work is of course Linda's. And was added by necessity to get around the very limiting profile picture she submitted.

OK one more for today

#5 Redux  This is the amped (retouched) version I did for Max.  The original had the more basic one colour text.  In fact the first four were done in a more simple style intentionally to be a little more like the old FM covers.  It was Max's cover where I really started just making covers on their own merits and looked a lot less to old FM for styling cues.  So you will likely  notice they get a lot more polished and elaborate from here on.

Although Linda's cover had a lot of (hopefully unnoticeable) Photoshop work (Most of the card files were created), this one took it to another level where much of the image was straight up created for this cover. Most of it simply got lost behind Max's head as it became apparent the head needed to take up more of the cover image. This was likely the most time consuming of the covers for that reason.  The Legend of Sleepy Hollow has always been a favourite of mine and Max was a natural choice, although it has nothing to do with how he actually lost his head.  It was now going to get increasingly harder to top my previous cover (in my mind anyway) which also eventually played a part in the demise of the fantasy covers.

#6 Craig's cover which he has posted was the first to receive two tone text.  Although not as visually out there as Max's cover, the skull morph and the fact I had to dramatically change his expression from a happy-go-lucky smile to an evil sinister grin/sneer was rewarding.  To be honest I spent so much concentration on changing his face that I doubt I could recognize him on the street now. Incidentally the cloak he is wearing was taken from a still of the Phantom of the Opera.

Fangtastic thread! I'm lovin' it. Let's relive these pulp pusses from start to finish. Thank you Robert for requesting, and thank you Gary for obliging! I forgot just how cool (and fun) these covers were!

When I moved from the farm this past Spring, I lost hundreds of files, disks, irreplaceable stuff--but fortunately I had a small cache on a geocities file--I'm getting a charge out of seeing what all is there.  Not much, but that UMA magazine with me on the front was there--I'm glad I stuck it over here.  It has been a great charge seeing the other ones!  I look forward to seeing the whole run of 'em.  Good old days, eh?  And a permanent file somewhere in the halls here sound like a good idea, huh, General?  IhopeIhopeIhope.

#1 Redux This is the re-tooled version of cover number one.  Initially the covers were done on software designed for printing, and while they looked good on hard copy, they didn't do so well as jpeg images, and thus some were re-touched in Photoshop later.    Although I could have redone this like Max's I have to admit that this as it is, is one of my favourites.

#3  Again an early cover. Jim's two hour time machine was interesting in that he asked the question if you could go back in time for two hours what would it be.  Similarly he also asked about a shorter 15 minute time too.

#7 Was the first of an idea I later dropped about actually "bumping off" OOTMAHs on the cover, and although you may not notice it if you don't read this there is an axe shadow across Mike's head, thus the cause of his demise.  In my mind it was a nice subtle touch.  You can see these covers really were done as much, if not moreso, to amuse myself.

The classic Purple and Green colour combination really makes me like this one too.  Nothing says monsters like green and purple.

The cover headlines say it all about Mike's month.
