I bought a copy of 3-D Monsters off EBay long ago, only to receive it to discover the coating on the 3D specs had worn away over the years....or they were cheaply made in the first place.

Another reason why 3D probably fell away was the introduction (or reuse) as it were of anaglyphic projection as opposed to polarization.  Many films were filmed/shown in 3D using polarization upon initial release but it was a costly investment and over time if one print degraded or if both reels didn't run exactly the same....well, here come the headaches and eye strain.  Anaglyph (an already existing but not as effective process) became the cheap standard, especially in the 60s/70s drive in and tv days which saw many polarized classics converted to anaglyph; again a process which could never produce the same results as polarized 3D.

It was very cheaply made, after all we are talking about Myron Fass here.

The reason this 'zine is sought after is because of that magical Monsterkid year of 1964 when it appeared. Monsterdom reached a peak around that time which featured the launch of Creepy and Monster World from Warren, the intro of MPC Pop-Top Horrors & Unbreakable Weirds, and several other monster related comics and toys. We all understand the nostalgia factor and how it turns something mediocre into a must have. I never owned 3-D Monsters as a kid but I saw it and wanted it, so it has that pedigree for me. I bought mine several years ago from Dennis Druktenis and it still has the glasses attached. I have checked out the pics with some spare 3-D specs I have lying around and the Monsterkid in me thinks it's very cool. The cynical adult in me thinks it's a cheap rag but I just tell that guy to p*ss off!  ;)

The Complete Saga Of The Victims is a trade paperback which reprints the chapters from Skywald first presented in Scream, as well as the final chapter which was never printed due to Skywald folding.

It's been OOP for several years and sellers want a pretty price for a copy these days. Check out Amazon and you'll get my drift. They do turn up on eBay sometimes and there's one listed now for a hefty minimum bid. Jeez, glad I scored mine back when they were around 20 bucks.

Another book which has become HTF and expensive is Skywald! The Complete Illustrated History Of The Horror-Mood (Critical Vision, 2004) by "Archaic" Al Hewetson. Check Amazon sellers for some prices in the stupid zone.

This is a great book for Skywald fans and I highly recommend it. I'm glad I ordered mine new from Head Press because those current prices are painfulu6juu

Again, here's the link to Monster Magazine World: https://monstermagazineworld.blogspot.com/?zx=c54b0829487f4670

Fantastic site that is constantly updated with the stuff we love. There are several classic monster mag issues posted in their entirety. An abundance of free info and entertainment for Monsterkids. John does occasionally post a booby pic or two so be warned if a tad of nudity gets your panties in a bunch.  ;)

There was a warehouse find of those, which is why there are so many of them available in excellent condition with the glasses still intact at a cheap price.

Exactly. Thank the fates for warehouse finds, and especially for the Warren warehouse. If not for those our collections would be much the poorer, and the few copies that would be traded would be so expensive most of us couldn't afford to own many of them.

Bloke's Terrible Tomb Of Terror is another current monster mag in the Warren vein.

I believe they're up to #15 now. Creator Jason Crawley (Bloke) presents a fun mag, with art by Mike Hoffman and others. Issues can be found on Amazon for $8.95 each. I have the first five which I purchased from Dennis Druktenis 3 or 4 years back before I knew how to get them otherwise. I was planning to keep up with it but room is becoming a real issue and I've stopped purchasing new monster mags with the exception of The Creeps. Bloke's is alright, but The Creeps is a must-have for me. I think the writing is better for The Creeps and the allure of past Warren talent and Warrenesque new talent is ambrosia for this old monster mag dude. Understand, I'm not saying The Creeps is as good as classic Warren, but it's as close as we're ever going to get.

I'm in full agreement! A toast to warehouse finds.

Got this copy of Phase #1 from an eBay seller today:

The seller advertised it as VF- (7.5) which I could tell was way off by the scans, but it was a great price on a BIN so I bit. I think the reason others didn't buy it first was because it had a price sticker on the back cover. I've collected long enough to know that these stickers come off pretty easy from the slick cover mags with light cardboard covers and sure enough it just peeled off with careful effort. Now the book is in FN (6.0) which is a good deal for the $12 cost.

Phase #1 is a great fanzine from 1971 featuring work by Neal Adams, Gray Morrow, Jeff Jones, Ken Barr, Michael Kaluta, Tom Sutton, and a story by Frank Brunner which was originally intended for the never published Web Of Horror #4. Love these early '70s fanzines!  8)
