So sad! That must have been a fabulous place.

I went here too ...

And you had Coney Island as well! New York City must have been a fabulous place in those days.

The same kind of philistines who worked to shut Adventurers' Inn down succeeded in closing Toronto's Sunnyside Amusement Park by the lake to build the monstrosity known as the Gardiner Expressway. They opponents of the project were said to be "against progress". The city "planners" who worked so tirelessly to get those amusement parks replaced by shopping malls and expressways should be flogged and jailed.

I just saw this tonight on Facebook- Wow!   I took my 2 kids & my daughter's best friend to Miracle Strip in 1997. I will try to dig up a couple of pics. I'm pretty sure I have some pictures of the big props when they were nicely painted in their heyday. It's sad to see them all torn up & deteriorated.

Nunley's in Baldwin was great ..  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nunley's    .. they made great pizza, had the best corned beef sandwiches and I don't recall any ketchup invading French fries.  The mini golf course was one of the best that I've played.

BOO to Pep Boys.

I loved Nunley's, it is a painful reminder of the fact that even the suburbs had some style and dignity at one time. It was closed at the end of the Summer in 1995, never to re-open.

Oh man! Modern day amusement parks are so sterile by comparison.

I knew of Palisades Amusement Park from the ads in DC comics and Freddy Cannon's hit single from 1962:

Palisades Amusement Park itself closed in September 1971, but it seems there were so many cool amusement parks in the New York area in the fifties and sixties! Do any remain other than Coney Island?

I still look forward to the three week long Canadian National Exhibition which ends on Labour Day:

Rides, corn dogs, carnival barkers and games of chance, scantily clad women, I mean what's not to like?

Palisades Amusement Park was where my parents took us each summer.  Usually twice, once early in the summer and once at the end of summer.  Loved that place.  Many happy memories of going there.  I remember when we heard it was closing - a sad day all around.
