R.I.P. Hershel  :(
Rot in Hell Governor!

I know nobody's been talking "Dead", so far, this season, but I wanted to bring up the explosive mid-season finale and say goodbye to Hershel.

Hate to see a good villain go, now what?

There was no way The Gov. was going to survive the episode where he cuts off Hershel's head! What next? Tune in Feb. 9th!

And there was an awful lot of blood in Little Asskicker's (Judith's) carrier, too. Doesn't bode well. Poor little Meghan, too. Lotsa death in this episode!
On "Talking Dead," Scott Wilson said he looks forward to watching the series as just a fan, now.

A red herring, I'm sure.

A shocker for sure!! Asskicker probably made it onto the bus (hopefully). Who wants to bet that now that Rick and Carl are separated from the group, and Rick is hurt badly, they stumble upon CAROL, who nurses him back to health?
We're all here because we're not all there.

A possibility, but I've already read speculation that it was Carol who snuck in & took Judith, then got on the bus and took off without Maggie. Two months of non-stop geek musings is gonna be interesting...and probably painful.

Undoubtedly she will be back, but when, or under what circumstances . . .?

I thought Carol was going to be in that pack of walkers for sure (glad she wasn't).

Why did Meghan's dumbass mom not keep her on a shorter leash? Just plain stupid and a bit unrealistic I would think!

I seem to remember the Governor had told her something like they would be safe there because the walkers wouldn't cross water.  Did I miss some detail as to why that stretch of river bank was isolated?  Still, you wouldn't necessarily expect a body under the sand.  She could have been sitting right next to her and still she could've been attacked.

Hershel's death would have been more dignified if the Gov cut his head off with one blow. It was the worst part for me.

No one knew it was a flash flood zone. That's what was printed on the sign Meghan dug out of the mud, "Danger: Flash Flood Area." Obviously, a walker got swept into the river bank during a previous flooding, and buried by mud. The sign had been on top of it, holding it down. Meghan unknowingly freed it.

In the comics, Lily killed The Governor on her own. On "Talking Dead", Robert Kirkman said they decided to make it a multi-part affair: Rick beats him (then starts to lose), Michonne skewers him (because the audience has been waiting for that for over a year), then Lily gets the brain-shot (nod to the comics).

As for The Governor's inability to behead Herschel in a single blow...it's just really something the average person can't do. Walkers are rotting, their connective tissues are decaying, so it's far easier to cut them up. A living person, it takes far more force, especially if the blade hits a vertebra, instead of sliding between the vertebrae. When beheadings were the popular form of public execution, it was a matter of pride for the executioners to be able to take off a head in a single stroke, and that was with those giant axes or immense broadswords! That's why the French invented the guillotine; it was considered a more "humane" method of execution. Also, Robert Kirkman said the tradition on the show is, the more beloved a character is, the more horrific they make their deaths. It just has a more visceral impact on the story.

I like watching the program....but this episode was too rich. This show is very inconsistent in its writing/characters.  A couple episodes back---Rick throws Carol out for trying to stop a plague. He cannot have her sleeping in the prison with his kids.

But this episode he was willing to move the Govenor (a bigger threat than the Walkers) into the prison.

But last season---Darryl left the group for about 20 seconds because Merle was too dangerous to bring back to the prison.

Huh?

I am also tired of them killing my favorite characters. Hershel was awesome.

Its like this alot.

Like when Laurie said "Shane's dangerous--and he's not gonna stop." But when Rick stops him---boom! she hates him.

Either everyone is incapable of sticking to decisions they make in the wake of the Zombie outbreak, or they have dementia.

This wraps up some of my thoughts with regarsd to how quickly people change their minds(IE Rick esp.)
