I had had hopes of flying to L.A. this month or next month for Forry's 92nd birthday--here is news that makes me very very sad indeed.

Ron Adams has posted at the Bash group:

I received a call from Forrest J Ackerman's assistant, Joe Moe,
yesterday. Forry is not doing well. Forry sends his wishes to all the
Monster Bash Brood....he realizes time is short now and is letting the
fans know. Our very best to Forry, if you wanted to send a card...now
is the time. One time., back in the 1970s, Forry called on us to write
cards to Lon Chaney Jr. when he wasn't well...now is the time to send
them to Forry:

Absolutly terrible news, Forry is simply irreplacible and an icon to everyone in the community.  I hope for the best and wish him well.
Bringing terror and death across 4,000 years!

My heart just sank when I read this.  Some of the worst news to hear on Halloween.  My thoughts and prayers are with him.

Joe posted at Scarlet Street today that Forry is battling another infection and spent 3 days in hospital--is home now, and Joe is hoping he will rally.  Keep our old friend in your thoughts and prayers, gang!  Forry has great genes--his mom made it to about 94, if I remember right--  All positive vibes to you, Forry!

Robert,
We can only hope that our prayers and Forry's good genes will out.
I have a card ready to go in the morning post.

In his almost 92 years, Forry has lived a life that dreams are made of...  and he's connected with monster fans he created throughout it.  Certainly I wish Forry the very best, and I'm sorry he's not feeling well...   but I'm happy for him that he has lived this long, has had such a rich and full life, and has shared it with his fans in a way that few do.  He's been much richer for it (and I'm not talking about money).  For some reason, I don't feel sad.  It's not because I don't care...  I just don't think Forry would want us to be sad.

Well said, Bobby.  Nearly 92 years--and of those, over 80 of them sci-fi and horror oriented!  Forry's been a model to us all--our favorite uncle.  Be happy for Forry--we should all have such a wonderful life!

I also am very sorry to hear Forry not doing well, but as Robert said he's had a wonderful life.As my dad passed away this year at 91 Iam very blessed to have had him here that long and am very blessed to have met Forry at Bash 06.I  hope he rallies and gets better, but if not Iam proud to have shook the hand of the man who shook the hands of many.I finally met the man who steered me on to monsters.Love ya Uncle Forry!

Wow...that's too bad, especially on Halloween. Get well soon, Forry.

Forry has had some bad times before, but I don't remember him ever telling fans "this is it" until now.  I'd like to see him live to be 100.  But I'm glad we've been able to enjoy his company as long as we have.  Strange to know in advance that this could be our final Halloween with him.

His work on Famous Monsters of Filmland is responsible for me getting hooked on Universal Monsters. It started when I was 5 and a friend gave me a Aurora Mummy model. I started buying the others and had my brother build them for me (I didn't know how for the first 3 and then my modeling hobby started) I really liked it and then when I went to the PX, I saw Famous Monsters. I got it because of the pictures and then when I got older I started to read the articles.I started watching the movies on TV when they showed them. These events made me the fan and collector I am today and it was Forrys' FM that is the inspiration for my website. He has had an interesting life with some adversity like the rest of us. Let's hope for the best. Best wishes, Forry.

Write to him today, my friends.  Forry is alert and happy, but very very frail.  Write today.
