What about an award that looks iconic?  Like.....an Aurora model?

Somebody already suggested the Aurora Frankenstein kit. I think something original would get us in less trouble.

Remember those little tribute to monster kids statues that J. Michael Roddy was doing, a while back? I think something along those lines (but a little simpler) would be nice.

we could have the UMA bat wing logo and the name of the award.

That would be good on a cert!

Nope! Do you have pictures?

This is quite doable, actually. In fact, it's so simple, people could sculpt their own at home! And we could call them The Tombies!

And, with homemade decal kits, it'd be pretty easy to print out the UMA logo, names of the winners, categories, etc.

Now, the big question: do we want to align it with a single convention, or try to skip around to as many as possible, to stay neutral? I'd vote for neutrality. Besides, in my present physical & financial conditions, the only con I can make is Mad Monster Party in Charlotte, NC.

I think it's a terrific, fitting idea.

And the altered tombstone works. Call it The Uum - (Rhymes with "tomb") - ie.

First, I love the idea of the awards.

Second, although a custom bronze award sounds great, the cost is something to consider. I envision 12-24 categories and when you start to multiply out the cost...

I think for the first few years, perhaps a simple custom engraved marble plaque, showcasing a UMA logo. something like this:

Also, while running awards like these seems like a simple affair, we are really talking about hundreds and most likely thousands of hours of work to do it correctly (ie pictures of all the merchandise, checking release dates, making sure categories are correct, tabulating votes)

Regarding models, I would suggest categories for Best Licensed Model and for Best Original Character/concept.

Lastly, until we get a tv deal like the Oscars, I think all members should have an opportunity to vote BUT there should be a nominal fee (say $10) to cover the cost of the awards.

You'll get no argument from me. I'm a styrene purist anyway.

Why not? I'll grant you that there's a very reasonable argument to be made for the thesis that the only opinions worth their salt are ones to which a certified cheque is attached, but I don't believe that's what you're arguing.

I think we'll get too many "ties" from the 2 people who pay to vote.

A poll tax?  We joined this army to fight such things!

Mike, you can't be out with THAT rank! O0

If you let the nominators post the pictures of what they nominate, that could save you time down the road. You'd just have to set up the necessary forum and threads.

A bronze award sounds swanky, and the tombstone idea is very cool, but I don't know how the "pay to vote" thing will work out for you. There's really no shame in a certificate, but you can always solicit donations and see what you can afford with what you accumulate. Maybe a customizer and a caster from the board can team up and make something cool, depending on the number of categories and how much resin you can afford. (I was going to suggest putting a realistic human heart on a pedestal and painting it purple, to combine the horror and military themes, but I will digress.)

Sorry, I probably shouldn't be involved. Really, I just want DST to win an UMMY. Or a Tombie. Or a Tomber. ("It's not a Tomber!")

Why not,your a member !

What about a cold cast bronze relief plaque as the award. There's very little clean up.The relief sculpture could be based on a classic toy or  an original character.

What the award symbolizes means much more than the monetary cost. As long as it looks cool it doesn't have to be expensive. I think donations are the way to go. Paying to vote seems off putting to the monstering masses.
