And get sued by Universal.

Universal does not own the rights to the kit.  Revell does.  As for similarities to a certain monster, it's a custom piece.   ;) Only a few are made per year.  It's art... and it's not even being sold.  It's a piece of art gifted to the deserving.  ;)  No, the only problem I foresee with any of this is Universal trying to get the term UMMY trademarked.   ;D

I agree this is worthy of discussion and everyone should have a say. I'm not a fan of polls. By all means, everyone who cares should voice their opinion and provide feedback. But if anything materializes from this discussion, it won't be based on the results of a poll.

In keeping with the "Army" theme of the UMA, the awards should have a military name. I have no knowledge of military awards, so someone who is a military veteran or aficionado can provide suggestions.

How about a bronzed figure as an award and name it the "UMA Model of Honor".

I never liked the military denotation. I think army should just mean a large group of people with a common purpose.

Mike, could you move this thread to General Discussion? I think it's broader than the topic of Modern Toys. I'm on a tablet, so I'll probably delete it if I try to move it.

I agree. I was in the United States Army and found nothing cool or remotely compatible with monsters about it. I served and was glad to get back to "the world".
ALWAYS MONSTERING...

Instead of statues, how about custom neck-order medallions? We could have gold, silver, and bronze?

If the UMA had an annual toy and model award, I'd want it to be the premiere award in the horror collecting hobby, not just another one of many. I'd want it to ne a "real" award. Obviously, there would be categories for toys. I don't know if we should have a mask category. That kind of stomps on the HMA. I'm not sure about resin and vinyl models, either. We've experienced a lot of friction with the garage kit community. I'm not sure they'd want an award from us. Maybe we'd stick with styrene kits.

What about an award that looks iconic?  Like.....an Aurora model?

If we wanted to keep it simple, but still harken back to Aurora and have a bit of  the iconic (without the potential legal threats), we could model the award after the base of the Frankenstein kit: the tombstone, the pieces of stone in the ground, and a bit of the grass.  Cut the length, so that the base is basically a little longer than the size of the stone.  On the stone, we could have the UMA bat wing logo and the name of the award.
