After reading The Batman's thread on 'Gotham' and the mansion used in a Batman flick .. I was surfing and came across this article on Abandoned Mansions ..  http://www.urbanghostsmedia.com/2009/10/exploring-mysterious-abandoned-mansions/

I think that this castle in Scotland could also be used as an UMA Asylum or vacation retreat ..

That is spectacular! UMA vacation retreat you say? I nominate Dr. Madd to provide the catering (and wall defences!).

I want a dungeon. Just a cozy little place to prop my coffin in the corner, and warm up some branding irons.

I have found a Paris retreat .. the Rothschild family .. left this place behind as they fled Paris before the Nazis .. the Nazis did cause damage as did the Americans when they used this place as HQ. I'm sure that it could be had for 'fixer upper' prices.

You'd have to check the basement first, there could be a 99 year old mad Nazi scientist carrying out unspeakable experiments and alchemy in a crazed quest for immortality. And he's looking for human subjects!

Naturally, the basement will be checked out. I'm divided about how to handle the possible 99 year old Nazi scientist .. I do have some 'subjects' that I won't mind sending him for his quest. Or we can send the ghost of Simon Wiesenthal to sort things out.

What's really interesting is that the grounds are still very well maintained although the building has been allowed to deteriorate.

Maybe the neighborhood goats feast there?  I attempted to do some quick research but all my efforts pointed back to the same article that I quoted.   ???

He was quite determined in life, I'm sure he'd be just as determined in death.

I didn't notice the manicured lawns and pruned hedges...if France is anything like the UK, then it's probably the barmy local council maintaining the grounds whilst the gorgeous building decays.

I found some answers about the Chateau de Rothschild ... http://bulcranium.blogspot.ca/2013/06/the-rotting-rothschild-mansion-of-paris.html

The palatial structure was purchased by James Mayer de Rothschild in 1817, one of the richest men in the world at the time and the most powerful banker in the country, accredited with playing a major role in making France an industrial power following the Napoleonic Wars. It is said his personal fortune (not including his family's) must have been at least five times the fortune accumulated by Bill Gates.

As if it were the omen that would seal its fate, the design of the Rothschild house was inspired by Jules Mansart's Château de Clagny, a 17th century French country estate northeast of the Château de Versailles that had also been abandoned, neglected and consequently demolished less than a century after its construction.

Alas, the Chateau de Rothschild was saved a similar fate in 1951 when it was declared a historical monument. In 1979, James Mayer de Rothschild's youngest son, Baron Edmond sold the castle for a symbolic 1 France to the city, which in turn, immediately sold it off to a wealthy Saudi Arabian buyer for 50 million Francs (something close to 7 million euros today). More than thirty years later, under the same ownership, the house is still in ruins, with an estimated 30 million euro price tag for the renovation.
... .

While the park, named after Baron Edmond de Rothschild, remains open to the public who can picnic on the lawn with a front row seat to this spectacular abandoned ruin– if it doesn't turn one's stomach off the cheese and crackers that is. Certainly, there are no guided tours for this historical monument of Paris; the Chateau de Rothschild is closed to visitors indefinitely (well, not for your average visitor anyway).
