Today ended a many year quest to obtain a copy of the Cool Ghoul's Phantasmagorical Funky Fonograf Record!! I watched the Ghoul on WXIX in Cincinnati whenever Scream-In aired. It was on Saturday nights and I would have to drag my parent's black and white television set into my bedroom. His show is where Boris Karloff as the Mummy scared me to death! He had a blend of music, comedy and of course the monster movies.

A few years ago I found his daughter on a web site while we were discussing the Ghoul. When Facebook came around I found her on there and we struck up a friendship. I've painted her dad several times, and did a portrait for her. The subject of his record came up on Facebook and I mentioned I had been looking for a copy. She told me she had an extra copy and gifted me with it! So not only do I own one, I own one the Ghoul himself owned at one time!! She also sent me a xerox copy of the script for the very first episode of Scream-In!!!

Never knew this existed, Mike!  As a fellow Ghoul fan, I am impressed, amazed and celebratory (for your getting this special copy!)--I sure spent countless hours watching the Ghoul hosting some of filmdom's most peculiar movies.  Am i remember right--did he run MUSHROOM PEOPLE more than once there?  I seem to remember a period of time when there were a number of English-dubbed Italian things, too.  Or am I mixing him up with what I saw on Sammy Terry?  I watched both horror hosts when I lived in southeastern Indiana, a place in the hills where, in those pre-cable days, I could get both the signal out of Bloomington IN (Sammy) and of course Cincinnati (Ghoul).  Sure takes me back to a lot of fun nights of tv watching!  Again, congrats on scoring the album.  You certainly deserve a cool (ghoul) find like this!

Thanks, Robert. I don't recall the mushroom movie but that doesn't mean he didn't run it, but I do remember the foreign films with the badly dubbed voices! LOL!!

I've only seen this on eBay once in the last ten years, and a friend of mine ran a used record store for over twenty years and said he only saw one copy come in. How I missed it when he had it I'll never know! Very pleased to own it at last.

Monolith

That's really great ! I never saw his show, and I collect records like this and never saw that one in person, only online. Congrats on getting a copy. And right from the source, too!

zombiehorror

Congrats on the score!  And the story sure beats, "I got it off Ebay!".

Mike-- that is an absolutely awesome story. And a great thread-- and a perfect illustration that if you do kind things, it will find its way back to you.

Thanks for putting a smile on my face!

GREAT SCORE MIKE.

ROBERT--Trader's World is a flea market in Monroe. I am sure you are aware of it being a seasoned collector.  I saw one of these at a record dealer's booth there. Bill Hicks Records and Comics....he's been there for 20 years. A regular. He's got $50 on it. If you or anyone else is hunting one also, and has the money to spend at the moment, it's there brother.

At first I thought this is where Mike was gonna say he got his. He's an Ohioan as well, lol.

ALWAYS GREAT TO HEAR O FOLKS GETTING A LONG SOUGHT AFTER ITEM.

Thanks everyone. I sure appreciate having my monster brethren to share stuff like this with. You guys and gals are the best!!

Mike, that's awesome that you finally obtained it!  Always happy when a fellow collector gets one of the items he's been searching for.

Wow! Great score! You can't get any better link than that to the days when you were watching the Cool Ghoul in your bedroom as a kid. Congratulations!

Collecting! It's what I do!

That's great that you found one.  My Holy Grail item is also a record album featuring a local horror host also.  I still haven't found one yet though.  I keep hoping one will turn up at a yard sale.
