I like in House of Dracula when Lon Chaney Jr. turns into The Wolf Man in the jail cell.
Listen to them. Children of the Night. What music they make!

If you watch A&E's "Bates Motel", then this scene had to make you jump and gasp when Jake popped up behind Norma...

His eye glasses scare me way more than this scene. Wowsers!

Marsattacks - Zelda!! She gave me nightmares. I grew up watching 'The Shining' and A Nightmare On Elm Street and the likes, but Zelda truly disturbed me! Still find it hard to watch that film even now. (The Timmy Baterman scene was pretty scary too).

Most definitely still a scary scene.

D.D. Wookie

The demonic clown toy coming to life in Poltergeist and the third story in Bava's Black Sabbath with the horribly grinning woman; can't remember the exact title.

Another Exorcist III reference, when the old lady crawls across the ceiling, unbeknownst to those below her.

I forgot about that scene.

Haunted hearse

A scene that sickened me years ago was where the corpse of Debbie Reynolds was propped up in dancing mode with a ladder in "What's the matter with Helen?", and the camera moved closer as Shelly Winters is playing the piano.
What ever happened to my Transylvania Twist?

When Danny was scratching at Mike's window in 'Salem's Lot.

The first 20 minutes in Castle Dracula. The Lugosi classic.

Jaws--when Quint tells the story of the USS Indianapolis
The Thing (1982)--When MacReady performs the test to find out who's the thing
Vacancy--While the couple are watching the snuff film, looking aournd their room.

And an honorable mention, not that the scen itself was all that scary, but what happened while I watched it.  While looking for a movie to watch, I read the back for Cameron's Closet.  The write up read about something in Cameron's closet and that his father gets beheaded with a machete in the closet (okay, you got me, I'll watch it), ordered a pizza, took a shower, popped the movie in the VCR and began watching.  The part came up to where the father goes into the closet, and the machete is seen.  The music begins rising, the scenes keep switching between the father and the machete, and it's at this time that my pizza arrived.  At the time I lived in a security aprtament, and the gate buzzer made a make-you-jump-to-the-ceiling type noise under normal circumstances, but when getting into a tense scene in a movie...  I'm sure the delivery guy wondered why I looked so white when I answered the door.

Great story! Never saw Cameron's Closet but getting a jump scare from something in real life during a tense scene, that kind of thing has probably happened to us all. Just saw Vacancy earlier this year and thought it was Damn good. When I was young my family used to race motocross so we stayed at a lot of cheap motels, some would just have a strange vibe.
