I can't begin to tell you how sad, and then angry, this made me feel.

Someone needs to tell the empty-headed dolt who wrote this poor little girl's script that the talkie monster era began with "Dracula" - duh!

Yep, MFS, this is what it has boiled down to at Universal. Folks expect this kind of hokum.

I prefer to just go by the sets and imagine the crew, cast and crowds, lights, and Mr. Whale giving out directions and saying where townspeople should stand. Was thrilled to see the sets back in 1998 visit. No hokum cr*p on the bus tour praise be.

I think it was a result of the trend to "baby-ize" things back then- Muppet Babies, Warner Bros. Babies, Bozo Babies (gak); I assume the evolution from Cabbage Patch Kids, Garbage Pail Kids, etc.?

Not the following, but didn't they do a short-lived or one shot cartoon about "Monster Babies"?

What you showed here was actually a fan commissioned thing. With that image the fans went on to make a flash animation short and pitched it to Universal. It likely failed but there was a monsters in school cartoon back in the day. It was called Graves High or something.

And yet, only a small fraction of how awful the singing Creature show was.

There are also Frankenstein and Jekyll and Hyde musicals. Not by Universal and inspired by the original novels. I haven't seen them but the Jekyll and Hyde one stars David Hasslehoff so... terrible.

People can do whatever interpretations they like.  That doesn't offend me.

But when Universal Studios does something like this as an official in-park attraction, it makes me so sad to see what little appreciation or regard they have for their own legacy.

I hope Ben Chapman never knew about this.  I think he took genuine pride in what he helped create.

I don't know. I know I'm gonna get crucified for saying this but what was so bad about that? It wasn't like he was singing or something. He just went on a mini rampage. At least he still has a presence there. I thought it was OK.

Edit: Alright, I wasn't listening to what the girl was saying first time I watched. But other than that I thought it was OK.

"Crucified"?  Not by me.  I think everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

I hated the whole presentation.  The monster's costume, the awful garish lighting (how much more effective to have darker streets with flicking lights in the windows, etc.) the tour guide's written speech and her atrocious delivery.

I just think Universal could do SO much better with very little effort and almost no added expense.

Yeah, there's no denying the Creature thing is just so worse on principle. And no I don't really see too much wrong with this Frankenstein tour thing other than the half-assedry Universal puts into everything nowadays.

I'd also like to add that I just looked at the clip you added.

Not only do I hope Ben Chapman never saw this. I hope you only put up the link to the clip but never actually watched it. And on the topic of the lady's speech: I don't know how you can hear pitchforks.

As wretched as these examples may be, and they are, NOTHING tops the kid video from the '90s of ex-exercise guru Tony Little and the Universal Monsters bouncing around on space hoppers. Fortunately for you who've not seen it, I didn't notice it on YT.  It is a lower point than anything in this thread. I advise you to not seek it out or your mind will be reduced to a burned out cinder.

Great, now I have to find this. Just to know that it's real.

Looking at the last pic (the postcard), reminds me that at one time Universal had decided upon a juvenile Frankenstein mascot. I can't remember what they called him? Was it Frankenstein Jr.? That would have been real creative.  ::)   I seem to remember they even had park merchandise regarding this "Frankenstein Jr." character. I have a felt 70's banner from Universal that features this adolescent Frankenstein.

Baby Frankenstein is disturbing.  I would undoubtedly have punched it in the face out of fear. :(
