Billiken's kits are all so fantastic-such wonderful dead on sculpts and this kit, officially labeled "Gorilla 2" is no exception! Billiken did not have the rights to do Kong kits so thier 1933 Kong is "Gorilla 1" and this Toho Kong is "Gorilla 2". I always wished they would have done a Gorilla 3-a 1967 Toho Kong to go with their Mechani-Kong kit. Anyways, I've had this kit for about 20 years now-I called long distance to Honolulu to Billiken USA to order it! Man I miss those days! LOL. I painted Kong back then and refurbished him about 14 years ago and thought he needed a new refurbishing now. I used a base coat of black and dry brushed Kong's fur with Nutmeg brown and Khaki while I did the exposed flesh areas with drybrushes of grey and a lighter grey. I have never been positive of the exact color of Kong's skin in King Kong vs Godzilla-depending on the print it looks either tan or grey. I used the widescreen Universal dvd of the US version as a reference this time and decided he looked grey. Anyhoo gang, let me know what you think. Up next is Kong's sparring partner-Billiken's 1962 Godzilla!

BEE-YOO-TEE-FUL!  LOL!  I always thought he looked more auburn colored!

Thanks guys. I'll be starting the Billiken Godzilla today. mark, you are definitely right-Kong was auburn colored, the nutmeg browm i used was pretty close, but when I dry brushed him with the khaki, it lightened him up.

To me, the '62 Toho Kong always looked like there was just a hint of purple to his skintones.

Interesting Count Z-i always thought the Godzilla from KK vs G also had a hint of purple to him...
