Remember that classic tune "Goin' to a Gorgo?"  (Or was that a "Go-Go"?)

I HAD Gorgo on my Christmas list last year.. I'm wondering if I should add it to my christmas wish list this year, or if I should just list it for next year?

I don't mind delays.. I DO mind not knowing some kind of timetable, even if its tentative.

Gorgo is on my Xmas card list every year. He and I are buddies from way back to his Charlton days.

Any word on Monarch's Gorgo model kit? It's literally been years since this thing was announced and still nothing...this model looks amazing, though.

Just throwing this out there, but I'm left to wonder if there was a licensing issue? Monarch's other kits were public domain figures. I know that Gorgo is in a bit of a gray area, as VCI owns distribution rights to the film. Apparently, the owner of VCI claims that he's in contact with the rights owner of Gorgo, but there seems to be no firm word on who this rights owner is (if there is one). Could it be that Gorgo itself (the character, not the film) is in the public domain?

Latest word on Monarch, per Anton.
UPDATE ON THESE FROM MONARCH, AS WELL AS GORGO, ETC:

To share with the greater hobby community, here is where we stand;

My artist and friend Gary is still AWOL, so we are forging ahead with the talent and dedication of Sir John Graziano, artiste extraordinaire. John and Gary are Monarch family, and both will take a strong role in keeping the art work bustling at Monarch. We also take great pride in featuring the talent of Douglas Klauba.

During my absence last year, the OEM in China underwent major restructuring and the tools have been dusted off and delivered to a new and hopefully more responsive OEM.
Our new OEM is very anxious to do the job right and quickly.
We are very anxious to demonstrate to the hobby community that Monarch is not a passing ship in the night. We are committed to the long term. The customers will tell us when it is time to pack it in.

Our OEM has pinned September as a production start date for the 'Vampire" and Jekyll kits, Gorgo, and possibly a glow Ghost. A delivery date prior to Christmas is achievable if production in Sept is met.

2014 has a few great possibilities with the cyclops at the pattern stage, the moonsuit leaving the drafting table for the pattern dept., and a very VERY cool new kit to fit the Adventure Series #2 kit. There is never a shortage of great ideas, only time.

You ever finish that Gorgo run, Hep?

I hunted for years and just found an issue here and there, mostly in lower grade. But, I finally decided I wanted them bad enough to keep checking eBay and bidding until I finished the run. At last I got very lucky and got nearly the whole run of Gorgo and Konga from one seller. I even upgraded the crappy condition issues while I was at it. He had each issue in a separate auction, and even though I placed aggressive bids on all of them I ended getting them for around 1/2 of my maximum bids. He gave me a great deal on combined shipping, too. I guess the stars were in proper alignment for me that day. It was a GOOD day.

Persistence pays. As time goes by these will keep getting tougher in nice grade at a reasonable price.

No, I've been badly stalled, primarily because I'm such a stickler for condition. Being broke for the last three years hasn't helped either of course.

You would think Monarch could start a free blog at wordpress or blogger and do an update once a month. Is that too much to ask?

The fella who runs it is in the medical profession. Monarch is like mask or garage kit making for him....except the products are licensed and very professionally presented. The company is more a labor of love than a full time occupation. I have many friends in the same profession. In many cases they barely have time for their family and friends. He gives updates to hobbyists and then lets them re-post the information. If he had a blog---when would he have time to update it.

Besides---Monster Scenes/Dencomm has a blog. Its just about useless because its never updated. So having one (and not keeping it updated) would just be cause for more complaining from...you guessed it---US.

I guess you're right Anton. It's just a bit frustrating hearing tidbits from different 3rd person sources. I've never anticipated a model kit as much as Gorgo.

I still have to give Monarch credit for doing it right though, i.e. casting model kits in styrene plastic with dozens of parts to assemble. Some of these garage kits are just a joke as kits - a beautiful sculpt but the "kit" consists of two or three parts.
