This Ted Mikels movie, a lot of people feel, is not the most awesome movie ever made.  Kinda slow and repetitive.  I wanted to see it, though, because I heard that it features a lot of scenes filmed at "The Haunted House," a Hollywood nightclub with a monster theme (established in the late 60's and lasting only a few years), and featuring monster props and decorations.  So the disc arrived today, and the scenes in the club are neat!  There is a semimechanical Lugosi Dracula shown, a Lagoon Creature display, a hanging chandelier with a Phantom sawing away at the chain above, and more.  Oddly the club is only a backdrop for the action, and the dramatic story has nothing to do with monsters or spooky stuff.

One of the early FMs, I think it was #36, featured a little bit about this in their news column, and even implied, not too subtly, that Ackerman and James Warren had something to do with bringing this club into existence.
Beautiful moving, shifting colors!

I dig the aesthetic of the club. What did you think of the movie? Not one of Mikel's best. But...okay.

Only time I ever saw the film was on "Mystery Science Theater 3000."

Of course........ 'cause the MSK3000 show has to bash and make fun of every low-budget film.  :(

There's plenty of them they never got around to. And there's plenty that are otherwise unwatchable.

I know the Planet Hollywood phase is Dead and Gone, but I would love to see an updated version of this in some fashion. Maybe a horror themed restaurant (or family fun place?) Rooms for banquets, Movietimes,  props, famous guests, etc). Year round fun if it was done right!
"How did you do that?"

Before Planet Hollywood became a hotel here in Las Vegas. I remember the awesome restaurant. As one would first enter the restaurant, it was a Horror fanatic's dream. Displayed were props, life-sized Monsters and movie goodness.

Couldn't agree more Mars! Sometimes the show was funny, but I would much rather just watch the movie without them talking through it!Yes some movies they showed were unwatchable, but most were not, and then when they started doing movies like Revenge of the Creature and This Island Earth-forget it! And thanks to these idiots it is almost impossible to find non MST versions of movies like The Human Duplicators and Secret Agent SuperDragon among others.

2 things:
1) I have always felt that Mystery Science Theater 3000 has a deep love for the films they feature. Lets face it, there are tons of errors and inconsistencies in many of the "classics" and even more so in B films.

2) NY has several Haunted House themed restaurants. There is the Jekyll & Hyde club and there is a place called Times Scare off of 42nd st. Although J&H has become more kid friendly, it is still a fun place for a visit and I recommend any UMA member to visit while in NY.

When I was a child, on my way to school, I would pass the nightclub, but all I could do was stare at it, from my car window.  I always wanted to know what it was like, but it was long gone, before I could have experienced it.  It's great, after all these years, to get an idea of what it was like.
What ever happened to my Transylvania Twist?

They didn't at first. They explain how they did come to love some of them (not all) in the book "The 'Mystery Science Theater 3000' Amazing Colossal Film Guide."

Best Brains, Inc., only licensed films. They didn't distribute them. Rhino sometimes released the non-MST3K versions to DVD. But, blaming MST3K for certain films not being released is like blaming "Elvira's Movie Macabre" for "House of Dark Shadows" not getting a DVD release until last year.

I don't mean released on dvd, for these kind of movies that's always kind of dicey, but i mean on youtube. search for films like human duplicators, the slime people, etc, and all they have is the MST versions, usually posted 3 or 4 times. I know MST has nothing to do with that, but the original versions of alot of these movies remain extremely hard to find. What i really don't like is the talking over the movie, the host segments are usually pretty funny, but geez-shut up and let me watch the damn movie!!
