Cabana Bay! LOVE it there! Did you get to the main park to hit up the Classic Monsters Café and see the Horror Make Up Show?

Sure did! I was going to post some photos in the other thread, but another board member, who apparently was there the same week I was, beat me to it. Mine look pretty similar to his, so no need for a repeat.

Picked up another vending machine display card. This one has 6 monster flicker rings and some other cool '60s kid items.  8)

It has a full set of that type of monster flicker ring, and combined with the display I bought a few days ago they have 2 full sets. The weird looking thing at the bottom left where the label has faded is called a "Warbler", I guess to make bird calls with.  ;D

ALWAYS MONSTERING...

The barber I use to go to had a junked up storage room in the back of his store. Occasionally, after getting my haircut, I had to use the bathroom which was in the back. Amidst all the junk piled up in the back, he had a number of old gumball machines with these cards in them. I asked him one day to sell me the machines so I could put them in my toy room. He said they were licensed machines with keys, and he couldn't sell them to me. They were really old looking and out of date looking though. My feeling was that he was making up excuses and just didn't want to part with them. Not sure why though as he never used them in the barbershop anymore. I would have loved to own them though.

Another nice one! What does the top left ring look like to you?

That ring flashes between a fat ghoul with earrings and a thin faced vampire that looks like Orlok from Nosferatu.

Thank you. It was a little pricey but my inner Monsterkid fell in love with it. That little bastard falls in love with too many things these days and I'm spending too much as a result!

Like I say, gumball vending machines had to be a big part of every baby boomer monster kid's life. Those cards you've just bought take me back to the vending machine(s) at the front of the Loblaw's supermarket and out in front of Ken's Variety in my neighbourhood when I was a kid. And those memories are what it's all about for me!

:)

Pity. I'm sure the machines would have gotten more love and attention in your monster room, and a whole bunch of enthusiastic squeals had you posted pictures of them here on UMA!

Yeah, this guy was my barber for many years too, and we got along great. He was in his early 70's. I use to hang after my haircut and shoot the breeze with him for awhile. I had told all about my toy collecting over the years as well...in otherwords, he knew I was really into it, and not just a passing phase. I never understood why he wouldn't let me have those machines though. He knew that I really wanted them. I told him I'd pay for them! But every time I asked about them, he would change the subject. Ah well...
