Monsters For Sale

So Mike's appears to be a U.S. version.  Wasn't really sure on the date but any info I found pointed to 2011/2012; seeing has how I'd never seen them until now though I can buy that they are 1999.

I think GoodFood is a Nabisco subsidiary that does business only in Canada.  Canada is a country with 2 official languages.  They do a lot of packaging in dual languages and some in completely different packaging for their French-speaking populace.  Makes for some interesting variations in presentation.

Both of these boxes have the "blood splat" and same type of cookie, but have different style monster art.

This box has the same monster art as #2, but has different cookies and a contest instead of stickers.

I suppose the Universal trip was offered only in the U.S.

The different style-guide types were probably because the boxes have 1998 and 1999 copyright dates on them.  Looks like the 2 differently-designed cookies (one silhouette and one cameo)  were sold for 2 years.

Anyone ever taste these things?

I hate hard cookies that come in a box (except Oreos).

Quote from: Monsters For Sale on August 29, 2015, 06:33:59 PMThe two 1999 box variations were issued in Canada (hence the French) by GoodFood - evidently the Nabisco branch in that country.

No. The name brand Nabisco uses for cookies and crackers in Canada is Christie.

Quote from: WikipediaAll Nabisco cookie or cracker products are branded Christie in Canada.

"Mr. Christie you make good cookies!", or so goes the radio ad.

I've never heard of the GoodFood name brand. It might very well not be Canadian.

To my knowledge there is no packaging exclusive to the French speaking portions of the country. That just woud not make sense economically. Al packaging in Canada is bilingual so that products can be distributed across the country, even if they're regional.

Well I'll be danged.

Where the heck do they sell GoodFood product then?

I actually called in and won a coupon for a free box of cookies; Nabisco was so stupid, though. If the coupon had any kind of monster artwork, I would have saved it and not redeemed it; unfortunately it was just a generic, carbon paper type coupon, so I redeemed it!
When times are dark, don't consider art to be merely a distraction; rather, think of it as a lifeline-  Neil Gaiman paraphrase.

I posted this already over in the MPC Monsters Appreciation Thread, and I thought to post it here as well for anyone who hasn't seen it. I picked this up in an eBay auction recently. It's the King Kong Window Box Set (MPC, 1967).

More about it and the cartoon which inspired it in the MPC Monsters Appreciation Thread. I can't find any info about this playset and had never heard of it until I saw it in that eBay listing. If anyone has any info or remembrance of it please post or PM me. Thanks.

Some big rubber reptiles from the '60s.

These were in the piles of extra playset stuff in the eBay auction I won with the MPC King Kong Window Box Set. For scale the gator is around 8" long. These suckers are big and rather oily, though not as oily as a jiggler. I decided to keep them because I bought several rubber bugs and reptiles when I was kid in '60s and enjoyed the heck out of 'em. Those things were great for scaring relatives and girls at school  >:D. The three on the left are marked "Made In USA", and the others are marked "Made In Hong Kong". I have no idea what company made them. The lizard on the bottom left has some melted plastic stuck to his front foot. He was stuck to a hard plastic Marx fern base in one of the piles. Had to file 13 that base, it was melted all to crap. Rubber and hard plastic don't mix (as I remember well from the Toy Box Wars). Most of the rubber bugs and reptiles I had from kiddom were much smaller than these, however I do remember buying a few of these big ones from display boxes mostly in tourist traps on vacation to Florida. Those disappeared over the years so I'm glad to replace them with these.
