SeptimusPretorius

I got this on e-bay this week.
I've named him "Otto-The Enraged Chimpanzee".
Actually, he is going to be an excellent addition to a model I'm working on!

Went to Chiller Theatre this past weekend.  Here is some of the stuff I picked up.

Always have to stop by Zacherley the Cool Ghoul's table and say hello.  Got the new book, The Z-Files, along with autograph pictures and other swag.

My daughter got to meet Zach.  He gave her a free autographed photo.

Finally got a MEGO Joker.  Once he's cleaned up he's going next to my MEGO Batman.  I hope they get along.

Alway have to pick up Famous Monsters that I don't have.

Met Ken Kelly again.  I love this painting from the cover of Famous Monsters #114, so I bought a 8X10 print and he signed it.

Fell in love with this large print.  The wife won't let me put it up in the living room.

Mighty close to a Frazetta copy there! I've been out of it for awhile, maybe there are lots of Frazetta imitators nowadays........Buddy

I LIKE the attitude on this guy!

Was he part of a playset?  And, how big is he?

He didn't come in a playset...and he's about 3 inches high.

Does your wife not approve of tiger-cats? I think they're cute myself.

Ken Kelly is a famous fantasy artist who has done Conan covers, record covers (KISS Love Gun comes to mind right off the bat), Warren magazines and a lot of other work.

He studied under Frazetta, who mentored him and helped him with his first professional sale (which I think was a cover of Vampirella, someone correct me if I'm wrong).

There might be similarities stylistically, but I wouldn't say it's a copy or an imitator.

Ormsby,

I LOVE Ken Kelly. He's a really cool guy too. He came to Wonderfest three years in a row, and the staff fell in love with him. I'm friends with him on Facebook now. Later this year, KISS is re-releasing their classic "Destroyer" album as a special edition with bonus tracks, and the cover will be Ken Kelly's original "Destroyer" artwork that he had to repaint after the record company decided his first effort was "too violent."

Ken Kelly is an excellent fantasy artist who was a mainstay at Warren with his fine covers. He was influenced by Frazetta as was Wrightson and many other great artists. Kelly is not a Frazetta "imitator", or "copier". He has been doing awesome illustration for four decades.
ALWAYS MONSTERING...

Sorry......... I didn't recognize the art or the signature as Ken Kelly. Yea, he's great. To me.......the girl screams Frazetta....pose, features, everything. I'll take the "imitator" comment back. I'll call it a Frazetta tribute piece...........     Buddy

I agree, Buddy. The girl is very much in the style of the classic Frazetta female...like princess Teegra from Fire and Ice. But, like you, I believe it to be a tribute piece to the great master.

In all fairness, I thought it was Frazetta at first glance.  You have to have a real talent to paint like that.
What ever happened to my Transylvania Twist?

Kaskits and Spook'ems by Therin of Andor, on Flickr

A set now complete! For those who've been following my Kooky Spooky adventure over the last year or so, here is my customized Mama Kaskit "Kooky Spooky" (far left) meeting... the real thing: a recent eBay "Buy it now" find. She arrived this morning.

To the right is a little guy I've renamed Little Formaldehyde, with customized death rattle (both concepts mooted by Patti Petacolas in her notes). He is meeting a pristine Baby Spook'em, complete with mint condition "Help" sign, thanks to the same eBay seller. (On the back, the sign reads "Boo!")

Looks like I'll have to add at least one more slide to my PhotoPeach slideshow at:

Thiptho lapth,

Regards, Ian.
