The Phantom Creep

Hmmmm... I don't remember the Rodan either but then I never saw the big Kong until last year. Anyone got a photo of this thing? Ray??

I'd love to see the Rodan, too, simply because I've seen so many different Rodans over the years that I'm not even sure if I've seen it or not. It's not shown and not mentioned in the Rodan article in Super 7 #13 nor is it listed on Club Tokyo.

The funny thing about my Kong score, is that the shopkeeper was asking for $45 for the decanter and $20 for the Imperial. After my trade ins, he wanted $25 for both. Since I only had the $18 in my pocket, I was leaning towards just taking the decanter and leaving the Imperial behind (in my ignorance)! But the guy said I could have both and to just give him the extra $7 next time I'm there. LOL. Oooops! Almost a colossal screw up, eh?

The Phantom Creep

Well the decanter is very common so it's not hard to find pretty cheap. The big Kong is rare in that they don't really pop up very often but I wouldn't really say it's worth too much because I don't think most people really care about the Imperial toys very much.

I would love to see a photo of the Rodan because I really doubt that it exists. While I had never seen a big Kong it makes sense since there is a small Kong just like there are two sizes of Godzilla. Ray are you sure maybe it just wasn't a generic pterodactyl that you saw in the box? Do you remember it having a Rodan tag on it? If this does exist I find it very odd that we've never seen it then or since.

Oh yes, it had a tag that said Rodan.  But it did look like a generic "monster bird."  It could have been previously issued as something else before Imperial stuck a Rodan tag on it.  But what I saw was definitely sold as a Rodan toy.

I finally just got into Monster collecting after being a fan my whole life (especially Frankenstein). While on the hunt for Remco Mini Monsters, I found this on Ebay for $26:

It has never been opened though the tape on the box has come loose from age...

Awesome score Madcow.   I have a soft spot for Remco Franky. He was the first monster toy I ever had as a kid.

Thanks! Oddly, I never had any monster toys as a kid though my mom was a HUGE fan of monster and horror movies. I vividly remember her taking me to see special showings of Frankenstein and Dracula as a kid in the early 80's...

Nice start to your collection for $26!  Congrats!

That's a great score, MadCow.  About the Rodan, I e-mailed the VP of marketing at Imperial a couple days ago.  I will be surprised if I hear back, but who knows.  I made a general query about seeking information on their vintage toys, not specifically Rodan.  I thought that would sound way too geeky.

Speaking of Rodan, I spotted this on eBay this week:

Is it possible that this could be the Rodan you saw? It's the closest thing to an Imperial pterosaur I've been able to find.

Great Buy Mad Cow!

And a great start!  Here's to many more years of enjoyment and collecting.

No, that's clearly a pterodactyl.  What I saw looked like a vaguely reptilian bird with little horns.  Without the tag, there could be 100 of them on ebay over the years and people would never notice.

Toy Ranch

I went to Texas Frightmare Weekend yesterday.  It's a huge modern horror con that was taking place 20 minutes from my driveway, so I had to check it out.  It's usually at a time I can't go, but this year I was able to squeeze out an evening for it.  As expected, the Universal monster presence was pretty minimal.  There really weren't that many dealers for such a large con, but I picked up a few DVD's and the guy from Club Daikauju was there with a few Rat Bat Spider kaiju from Angry Red Planet.  He had the regular painted ones, and then this wild paint job version that was the last leftover from a Tokyo con special edition.

I also got Malcom McDowell to sign an A Clockwork Orange poster for my wife, talked to George Romero and many of the stars of his various zombie movies from NOTLD to Diary of the Dead, Tony Moran (the original Michael Myers), and many others.
