There was a warehouse find of those?

Warehouse might be the wrong term, but a number of them turned up in 2000. Before that find, I had never seen one in person. There was speculation that someone was making them, but so many were dirty and with some paint flaking, they certainly looked like they'd just been sitting around. I think we've discussed it on here before, but that might've been the yahoo days. Memory seems to fly with time. :D

Tell me about it! ;D

All I remember about the yellow BM Frank banks was that Terry and one or two other people had one.

I think I know of six or seven in yellow, four or five in black. There's a Kong in the same style and size, which has also been found cast in yellow and cast in black.

The Creature we're discussing has a number of different colors of plastic and paint.

There are a few old UMA threads discussing the BM Creatures. I searched them out before buying mine to get some idea of scarcity and current fair market value.

Here's one: http://www.universalmonsterarmy.com/forum/index.php?topic=21707.0

I also searched the rest of the web for any BMC info and found very little. UMA really is the oasis in an information desert regarding much of this stuff.

Yeah, you won't have to wait long to find one of those on ebay.

There really isn't a ton of info out there on them, but it sure is a great toy to have. :D Kudos on adding it to your collection.

Thank you, darkmonkeygod.

From what I've been able to learn on the old UMA threads (and a couple of other places) these Mexican BM Creatures were fairly plentiful a few years ago due to something like a small warehouse find. They seem to have pretty well dried up again as far as what I've been able to gather through saved eBay searches. How scarce do you think they are currently? What do you think current fair market value might be for one? Based on prices I've seen in the recent past it looks like a fair market value might be in the $120-$150 range. Does this seem reasonable?

In some of the old discussions there was some debate about when these were made. Some people thought they were from the '60s-'70s and some thought they might still be making them down there. It seems to me they would be much more plentiful on eBay like the Marx Monsters repops are if they had been making them recently. I had to wait for awhile for one to come up so they sure don't seem common to me. Also, the plastic seems old on mine. And the stuff the Mexicans are cranking out currently doesn't seem to be as good quality as the BM Creatures. I think they were probably made in the '60s and/or '70s as Creature bootleg items, and I haven't seen evidence many, if any, were made after that.

I had been wanting one for awhile and am glad to finally get one. This is one of those items that could be difficult to obtain a few years from now due to dwindling supply. I was afraid if I waited too long to get one the prices would become much higher due to supply and demand, especially since this is a Creature item. I would still like to get a couple more in different colors, but I got the important one.. my first one, so at least I have that nice example in my collection. These things are bizarrely attractive, especially to blow mold freaks like myself.

Freddie Poe just picked up this intriguing 22" X 16" framed poster at Chiller Con:

He's guessing that it was originally a 1970s carnival prize or sold at a Spencer Gifts kind of store. Does anyone have a better idea?

Tell him to remove it from the frame and see if there is any info on the bottom border.

Got me a Pressman Witch Dr Head Shrinkers Kit finally. This thing is pretty cool! The molds are super thin plastic....you couldn't handle them much without doing them damage. The Powdered Flesh is kept in a nice cardboard locker, there is a hank (?) of hair, a paint pallet, wooden stir stick, paint brush, mixing cauldron, instruction book and nicely decorated small wax mixing cup (bet most of those didn't survive).

That's sweet!

Looks like the kind of thing your favorite uncle gives you for your birthday - that one gift that makes your mom screw up her face in disgust.

Love it.

Tell me about it. My mom wouldn't let me have Famous Monsters of Filmland magazines so I had to hide them like porno.  Missed out on a lot of issues due to that rule. :o
