No excuses. Ebay or a full fledged store, I have the right to expect a retailer to know his product line like the back of his hand.

Wow, I sure hope you're not holding me to those same standards. I may be the General here at UMA, but that doesn't mean I know what I'm doing. :)

Ebay is like an online Garage Sale, or as people like to call them today to make them seem nicer an "Estate Sale".    And we all know at Garage sales are always full of sellers who know their items backwards and forwards.    ::)

Seriously, this is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.

Seriously, you can get a much better price for something if the seller DOESN'T know what he has.  There is no university degree needed to sell on Ebay, and what you often have is an individual, who finds he has something he doesn't need, and wants to unload it.  Then there are those who see the Superman comic first issue is going for Big bucks, so obviously that "True Romance" comic from 1954 must be worth at least six figures.
What ever happened to my Transylvania Twist?

Well then you either don't listen to the people around you or else you have comprehension problems. Just because I have the right to expect something doesn't mean that my expectations will always or even often be met. It just means I reserve the right to treat sellers as if they should be knowledgeable individuals, and believe me, I do reserve that right.

I had no idea those tiny little figures even existed.  I seem to recall getting a purple skeleton in the larger size in grade school during a swap with some other monster fans at recess, but he got lost or traded off somewhere along the line.  It wasn't until I was an adult I finally got that whole set when they were reissued in green glowing plastic.  (Ditto the Marx monsters; had the orange Frankenstein back in the day, but never had the complete set until those glow reissues came along.)

As for e-Bay, talk about hit & miss.  Was trying to fill in some missing titles in my 8mm/Super 8 collection.  Some films listed there are priced low, while others are way over the top in price...and both stem from people who don't know and haven't really tried to find out what an average asking price should be.  (Some of the sellers have found the films in with a bunch of other stuff, or maybe it had once belonged to a relative that's passed away, etc.)  Have also had films sent to me that had been listed as being in great shape and the first few feet of film were missing.  (In one extreme case, half the footage was gone.  If you don't know about film you may not know about leader, but you should be able to tell that a large reel normally would not have just a tiny amount of movie on it.)

Can anyone confirm getting these in gumball machines?

???

Finding a vending machine card for these would perhaps answer some questions but would be awesome in any event.

I have the small 1 1/2" orange witch which is a near exact version of the 2 1/2" MPC witch (minus the bat). It has great detail right down to the spoon and hat buckle. Strangely, it even has a small round hole in the middle of the base just like the small MPC monsters. I don't remember where, but I recall hearing these midget monsters were included in the Horror Monster Grab Bags from the '60s and '70s with the 5 cent price on the bag. I've been looking for one of these bags to display on my shelf but they haven't reared their hoary little heads in awhile (unless you count the one on evilBay now for $50!...Yeah, Right.)
If these were produced by MPC it seems they would have the little MPC-in-a-circle logo on the base bottom just like the 2 1/2" versions do. My witch is unmarked. If they were knocked off by another company they did a great job. With the exception of the missing small details that stick out away from the figure (bat), these little figures have awesome detail. Vending machine distribution looks like a good bet as well judging from the size. It seems they would fit well in one of those little vending machine eggs.
I got the witch a few years ago in an eBay auction with some other monster figs. I don't remember seeing them when I grew up in the '60s/'70s. I haven't seen the small skeleton or grim reaper reported in this thread, but if I ever saw them I would try to pick them up. I think they're cool, and they look great on the shelf with the MPC monsters (Unbreakable Weird & Pop-Top Horror alike). I hope some of you guys can shed more light on these little guys.

No one in my area carried those, or I'd have gone through a lot of nickles!

This little figure ended recently.  I purchased from this lady and it is legit.  You might be able to contact the seller and work something out if you are interested.  Good luck.

I just thought I'd post this photo so you can see the size difference in all three. On the left is the large purple MPC
Pop-Top Horror, these are the one's who's heads pop off. In the middle is a green 2 and 1/2 inch -this is the size that came as a set of carded Weird Monsters and that came with the Haunted Hulk and the same size that came in Fritos.
And on the right is the smallest 1 and 1/2 inch. This little 1 and 1/2 inch I've had since i was a kid, i may have got it
in a vending machine or in a grab bag, the memory is a bit foggy, it's been so long. I've had it almost as long as i can remember.

By legit I take it you mean vintage. You're not implying that it was produced or even licensed by MPC, are you?

Yes, sorry, I mean vintage.  I have no idea who produced or licensed it.  But the one I received had age to it.

I just picked up TWO of the 1 inch Marx MPC Monsters on Ebay for less than $10.  I am attaching a photo.

If someone is interested in the yellow one, I would be willing to sell it for $5.  AND I might have another available as soon as I find the first one I bought.

Let me know.

Photo from original owner.  I have them in hand and they look great.

Grrr...

But those are based on MPC Pop-Tops as opposed to on anything that Marx did.

MPC,  Fixed.  Sorry for any misunderstanding.

I have been contacted by one member for the yellow mpc figure and another member for the "other" one I have around here somewhere.

Hepcat, I haven't forgotten how "freakie" things get. ;)  The search is on in earnest.
