Evil Dead, The - Prince Charles Cinema - London, England - Unknown date.

Evidently, the Prince Charles has had special showings of "Evil Dead" throughout the years.  No telling when this was taken.  The artwork below does not look 80's vintage.

(Look at the wonderful old houses in the background.  The most recent picture I saw of this theatre, it still had the upper structure of the marquee, but it was covered in graffiti and the building was being used as a Dollar Store, a really tacky one - sigh.)

The ground floor is shops, though there is likely apts. (or the shop owners quarters) on the upper floors.

You sure the date is right? I wouldn't have thought Raimi would get marquee billing, at that time.

The date was taken from the picture source.  There were no cars visible.

I assumed it was right because of all the  posters, etc. below.  I guessed that if the movie was 10 years old, the decorations would probably be less, or it would have been playing with a sequel or other feature.

I can't be sure.

Mighty Joe Young - Criterion - New York City, New York - 1949 - 1

OK, here's the deal: This is supposed to be a photograph of an acrobat performing stunts above a New York City crowd for 1949 premiere of "Mighty Joe Young".  Notice the gorilla is wearing sneakers.

I've seen enough publicity pictures to think this was a genuine 8X10 photo that has been touched up by the press to make it easier to understand in a smaller newsprint format.  Details that would have been hard to see, have been outlined in ink.

The people across the street at the Hotel Astor seem to be looking up in the direction of the "gorilla".  And the men tending the cable are looking in the right direction, too.  Look closely at the near side of the street between the acrobat and the cable tenders, and you can see a portion of the Criterion Theatre with the words "Mighty Joe Young".

This 2nd picture is a street-level view from the other end of the street, showing the opposite end of the Criterion Theatre marquee.  Half a buck for a movie in 1949 - even though it is big city prices for a premiere.
