Moonchild - Fox - Riverside, California - 1974

Obscure little oddity that was shot in 1971 and had limited release as The Moon Child that year.   It was re-released as Moonchild in 1974.  The name John on the marquee refers to John Carradine.

The Fox Riverside was a long time favorite theatre of the studios for out of town "Sneak Previews" of films before they were released. It also had a smaller theatre at the back of the building (down that colonnade and to the right) which showed "Art House" and Revival films. I saw King Kong there in the early 70s.
You knew the job was dangerous when you took it, Fred.

Frankenstein and Dracula - Victory - Salt Lake City, Utah - 1938

Yet another view of the Victory Theater during the 1938 revival of Frankenstein and Dracula as a double feature.

As can be seen from a previous post, https://tinyurl.com/k8b9apmp , the bikes stretch just as far on the other side of the marquee. I wonder how they sorted that out after the movies?

The sun is very high in these photos - it must have been a matinee with tons of screaming kids.

King Kong & Son of Kong - Squire - New York City, New York - 1945

King Kong and Son of Kong re-released as a double feature in 1945.  I am charmed by the fact that the theater went all out on promotion of two films that were over 30 years old.

Abbott and Costello Go To Mars - North Andrews Drive-In - Fort Lauderdale, Florida - February 6, 1954

OK, not a monster movie, but is in the sci-fi realm - kinda.

                         On the Beach - Goldman - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - February 29, 1960

Sorry for the lousy picture.  It was taken from a newspaper clipping.

In my defense, it is getting harder and harder to find examples that haven't already been posted.

Planet of the Apes - Regent - Sydney, Australia - August 27, 1968

Monkey business down under.

Revenge of the Creature & Cult of the Cobra - Loew's Majestic - Evansville, Indiana - April 23, 1955

Funny angle, over a carboard standee.  I'll bet Mike would love to have the theater-used standee for his collection.

Pit and the Pendulum, The - Roosevelt - Chicago, Illinois - August, 1961

Great gimmick marquee.  Instead of just telling the audience that no one would be admitted after the show starts, the mechanical pendulum starts moving.

"No admitted while the pendulum is swinging."

Lawrence Woolsey would love this.

I'd rather have the 24 sheet, which that was likely cut from. Have no idea what I'd do with such a thing, though.
