Remember in the movie "Ed Wood", Martin Landau (as Bela Lugosi) laments that horror movies had become nothing but giant bugs?

Well, I say "What's wrong with giant bugs?" There were really too many possibilities to list, so I just put up a few of my favorites. Feel free to cast a write-in vote and comment on your favorite giant bug movie of all time. I trust that the group's moderators will stand by with a can of "Raid" in case things get out of hand. ;D

Ants in the sewers, whats not to like. O.K I'll stick my neck out, this is the greatest insect movie ever made.  Great sound effects, brilliant characters and terrific plot line,  but I'll tell you as soon as they use the machine gun on the ants I always get a chill. It gets two snaps from me.

   Does the Fly count????????

By all means. The Fly, Mothra, The Wasp Woman,... if its a bug and it's bigger than a breadbox I won't disqualify it.

THEM!

My first giant bug movie, and still my favorite!

avenger

Them! is definitely a favourite of mine as well. I first watched it as a child of about ten
and it seem as if it popped up on television every few years since.
When I saw my chance to get my own copy, you can bet I jumped at it.

I love "THEM" as well, but the first giant bug movie I saw was "TARANTULA".  I also love any movie with MOTHRA, but I have to go with "TARANTULA".  I've tried to find this on DVD but can't, does anyone know where I can find it?  Does Universal even offer it on DVD???

TARANTULA is on the first set of Universal's The Classic Sci-Fi Ultimate Collection(with THE MOLE PEOPLE, THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN, THE MONOLITH MONSTERS, and MONSTER ON CAMPUS.  They just released a larger set with Sets 1 & 2.  Set 2 had DR. CYCLOPS, CULT OF THE COBRA, THE LAND UNKNOWN, THE DEADLY MANTIS, and THE LEECH WOMAN.-  Set 1 was going for a lot on Ebay for a while, but maybe it's dropped down since the double set was released.

I gotta give at least a token vote to STARSHIP TROOPERS for sheer size and quantity of gi-normous insects.

I loved Starship Troopers!!!!! This movie totally slipped my mind. Well, Starship troopers has my vote!

The Spangler

This isn't a "giant bug" movie, but THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN had a great scene where the protagonist (who is about an inch tall at the time) battles a regular size tarantula with a sewing needle.  This one particular scene always impressed me more than any of the entire giant bug movies of the fifties.  I did however, choose BEGINNING OF THE END from the list.   Giant grasshoppers in Chicago!  The solution?  Drop an A-bomb on the city, that simple!  "If we don't drop an A-bomb, Chicago will certainly fall!" LOL!!

I remember watching "Deadly Mantis" back when they had Fri. late nite monster movies on TV. I remember that movie WAS pretty wicked, would love to see it again. I used to have a diarama type model of the "mantis".
