What is "shoegaze rock"?

Good question. This is from Wiki "Shoegazing (or shoegaze, sometimes called "dream pop") is a subgenre of indie and alternative rock that emerged in the United Kingdom in the late 1980s. It is characterized by its ethereal-sounding mixture of obscured vocals, guitar distortion and effects, feedback, and overwhelming volume."

The best way to find out is through listening though. I recommend the following classic shoegaze records:
My Bloody Valentine: Loveless (1991)
Slowdive: Souvlaki (1994)

If you want to sample something more recent, I've been listening to Nothing: Spirit of the Stairs (2019). Damn good record.
