Digital is about convenience. If you want the ultimate in fidelity, you stick with vinyl which delivers a far warmer, richer, lusher sound than digital. Vinyl on a decent turntable ($500+) blows digital away in blind listening tests. I'm still haunting old record stores to amass the vinyl ditched by people who aren't music buffs and went with the convenience of digital.
Have you seen this thread?

???
No, I have not looked at that thread.  I will also say I agree with you; having grown up practically fighting to find or use any "record player" and eventually having a nice set, which simply happened to include a CD player, I began that process of format transition for convenience sake.  Particularly then, LPs were and are superior in sound.  That said, my last "record player" is broken and will be trashed.  The vinyl will go unless it is irreplaceable (yeh, I still have records that can't be replaced, particularly "classical").  As it is, I do love the democratic accessibility of music nowadays.
