Hey everybody -- here's a message I just posted on a comic art collectors' list announcing that I'm once again doing commissioned sketches -- and I thought I'd pass the info along here as well. I'll also be offering up more of my Scary Monsters cover originals for sale soon, so feel free to ask me about availability of specific covers.  I'll likely be tossing some original art up for sale on eBay soon, too (seller ID: beattylee).


I've not been taking on any private commissions for quite a while, as I've been carrying an incredibly busy schedule these past two years. I was teaching in the comics program at The Minneapolis
College of Art and Design as well as inking The Batman Strikes for DC every month -- and
continuing to paint covers for Scary Monsters magazine. It was almost like having two
full-time jobs -- and it left me no time for commissions. (See examples of my MCAD

But my "visiting artist" appointment at MCAD has run its course -- and I've just finished
inking the final issue (#50) of The Batman Strikes (ending an 11 year run on the cartoon
Batman titles!)-- and while I have some projects in the works, there's going to be a bit of
a gap between them -- so -- it's commission time!

It's been a while -- and prices on most everything have shot up -- but for now, I'm
sticking with my old pricing. Single character, inked and colored sketch on 11 x 14 bristol
is $60.00 -- two characters in one: $100.00 (simple character sketches -- no backgrounds). $6.00 shipping. Paypal OK.

As always, I'm looking to draw characters I have some interest in -- as I want to do my
best on these, and need to bring some enthusiasm to the drawing. So -- Golden and
Silver Age comic book characters, classic adventure strip and pop culture characters (movie monsters, of course) -- I especially like drawing Jack Kirby creations. I have no interest in re-visiting Elfquest -- and don't really want to draw anyone's RPG characters. I love classic pin-ups, and am thrilled to draw or paint them (but won't be drawing porn for anyone -- sorry). Email me with your requests at
