Here's one of the gems jimm dug up an old commercial of...The Ideal Astro Base. Pretty big toy. Runs on 4 batteries.....has a space scope with revolving screen showing asteroids and other space stuff. There is a rocket launch button to shoot at the items seen on the screen...screen stops revolving and a machine gun likehttp://www.universalmonsterarmy.com/forum/index.php?topic=19383.105 sound is heard. There is the space lock with crane to lower the astronaut into the space probe vehicle. The vehicle has a long cord that attaches to a power receptacle on the Astro Base.  The space probes are red tipped missiles.

MAN I love those great Space Age toys!!
We're all here because we're not all there.

Yes! The late 50's early 60's brought out some great space toys!  I can still think like a 10 year old (quite often per the wife), and this Ideal Astro Base, though really cool to look at would have bored me fairly quickly. The space probe vehicle being tethered by a chord would have been a pain. Still....it's cool to look at as a collectible....

Gary-Scatter...you are still invited to come over and play.....we'll get out the Astro Base.....You can be the Beast that the astronaut finds on the rug-planet and then finds an ingenious way to destroy! Ha!

Here are some photos I just snapped of my Tom Corbett lunch box:

Didn't they do a Tom Corbett lunchbox that was solid red with a small Corbett label on it? It might have been earlier than this one, but not by much....

Here's a weird one! This is a 1950's Knickerbocker Space Ship....with one big eyeball! Battery op with manually fired wing rockets. The passenger-eyeball turns in the direction of the one front drive wheel. Very early and strange toy.

jimm

I sure like that one Bud.

Here's my robot shelf currently.  :o

Yes. Here's a picture of the Tom Corbett lunch box Aladdin Industries issued in 1952 that I lifted off the net:

Evidently it was also available in blue. The subsequent one I have was first released by Aladdin in 1954.

Aren't you afraid that by putting so many of them together like that you'll enable them to take over the earth and enslave humanity?
