Ok, I know you are all probably cringing at this, but for all it's cheapness, it's bad Martin & Lewis impersonations, and of course it's contribution to the downfall of Bela's career...I kind of like this movie.

First of all, I thought Bela did a really good job in a really bad movie. I thought it was interesting that they gave him a "romantic" motivation (pining after Nona the jungle babe), rather than just the old rule-the-world megalomania that always seeemd to be his stock-in-trade in the last part of his career.  Duke Mitchell (Dino rip-off) wasn't really a bad singer, and I've seen I've seen Jerry Lewis do worse Jerry Lewis impersonations than Sammy Petrillo. You have a jungle laboratory, a gorilla transformation, and jungle humor that wouldn't have been too out of place in A & C's Pardon My Sarong (not as well done, though, of course).

The reason I seem to have an attachment to this movie, however, is because it's my only DVD that was left behind when my house was broken into a nunber of years ago, Yep, the one movie so bad it couldn't even get stolen was Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla. Now that's a movie with staying power!!
Supernatural, perhaps; baloney, perhaps not.

I thought Bela was great in this movie, and he makes the movie watchable.  Too bad he wasn't with the actual Lewis and Martin, instead of those clones.  Honestly, take Lugosi out of the film, and is it even worth watching?

Seeing as it's the only surviving footage of Mitchell & Petrillo doing their shtick...no, not particularly!

Its absolutely ridiculous...

and may be featured on season 2 of Dr. Blasko's Laboratory of Horror... ;)

I mean, the title character is named after Bela Lugosi, and one of his creations is a gorilla so...

Perfect! Maybe you can have a competition to see who can impersonate Sammy Petrillo impersonating Jerry Lewis? The cameras may explode.

Wow, and all these years I thought I was the only person that liked this crazy flick! The big girl that has the hots for Sammy in the movie was also in a couple of Three Stooges shorts.
Crazy am I? We'll see if I'm crazy or not!

I watched it for Lugosi.  I thought he turned in a worthy performance in an otherwise worthless movie.

Aside from the odd ending, I think it's a great movie. I'm tempted to watch it this weekend!

The ending doesn't bother me, because it shows Bela was not what he appeared to be in most of the movie.

I like this film too. I want to host it on our internet horror host show. We already did The Ape Man this year (we try to only do one Lugosi film a year) so it might have to wait until next year.
