Spooky and subtle. The combo of putting the protagonist into such an undeserved situation, and having the army show up was way too cheesy IMHO. The original conclusion had the best of Lovecraft and Hitchcock sewn together into a tapestry of mystery where anything could happen next and the imagination runs wild. Instead, we get one man's tragedy and a lame vindication of the military elements who supposedly caused the initial "problem". It was like an anticlimactic punch line to a long and interesting joke.

I watched Nosferatu last night, inspired by some of the recent discussion about silent films. I saw Goke on IFC. And I watched Repo: The Genetic Opera on DVD.
