Creature from the Haunted Sea (1961) - Trailer

A spoof of the film noire/spy genre that may well have inspired Get Smart a few years later. The monster needed more work though, a lot more work.

Neon Maniacs. I totally love that film. There is some speculation that the film is unfinished. It seems to be missing plot pieces. All-in-all it's pretty cool.

Gojira, 1954
Godzilla: King of the Monsters, 1954

I recognize many of the attributes that make viewers prefer the original Japanese version of this classic film.  But, I first encountered the re-edited film with added English language inserts of Perry Mason and that is the way it seems right to me.  Extracting Burr would be like removing the Gene Barry narrated bits from War of the Worlds.

I rankled at the "King of the Monsters" when I first saw it in the theater.  (I knew Frankenstein wore the crown.)

I've never been able to warm to any of the Godzilla sequels or remakes.  But the original still manages to engage me right from the mysterious opening incident at sea.

I don't remember any Gene Barry narration in WOTW.

Oops.

I can't think of what example I had in mind.  (I'm pretty sure I had one at the time.)

Maybe the post-title narration by Cedric Hardwicke?
