Monsters For Sale

Wolfen, 1981 - Werewolves stalk big city slums, culling the weak and sickly among us.  Just like they do in the wild.

Albert Finney, Diane Venora, Gregory Hines and Edward James Olmos.

Based on a novel by Whitley Strieber.

Albert Finney stars as a Kolchak/Mulder-type character with some standing in the police department.  Nice to see dancer Gregory Hines in a straight dramatic role.

Overdoes the colorful, negative predator P.O.V. photography.  Gets really tired, especially when it is how we must see the only "sex scene" in the movie.

OK, if you've never seen it.  But I don't think it wears well.

Didn't he write a book about (himself) being abducted by aliens?

A couple.  Then he branched out into other fiction.

I saw it at the theater when it first ran. I enjoyed it then, and still watch it every few years. Not a classic, but pretty good.

Bad Moon, 1996 -  Man returns home from the jungles of Borneo and parks a trailer on his sister's land.  But...  He seems changed, somehow.

Michael Paré, Mariel Hemingway and Mason Gamble.

Michael ParĂ© is surprisingly buff in this one.  A couple of his lines are delivered in an unusually low voice that sounds weirdly like an articulate Sylvester Stallone.

Good addition to  movie werewolf lore with interesting practical effects. Only falters in a transition scene that was done digitally.

The whole plot makes me think there was something like it on the X-Files, but I am probably wrong.  Maybe someone here can think of something similar.

The Shout/Scream Factory Blu-Ray has both theatrical and Director's cuts and some decent extras.

Good watch.  I liked it.

Over the past few days, I've been visiting the Jurassic Park Legacy:

Jurassic Park 1993

I haven't been onboard lately as I've been doing a lot of gaming on my new PC; Total War Rome II, Ryse: Son of Rome, and my PS4: Jurassic World Evolution.

Wishing all members a wonderful & safe Holiday Season
