The Sentinel, 1977 - A troubled fashion model takes an apartment in an old N.Y. Brownstone for a suspiciously low rent. Hers is the apartment just below the top floor where a blind priest sits stolidly facing the window day and night, as if watching...

When she complains to the real estate agent of the noises made by her strange neighbors, she is told that no one but her and the priest have lived in the house for years.

Amazing cast:  Chris Sarandon, Cristina Raines, Martin Balsam, Ava Gardner, José Ferrer, Arthur Kennedy, Burgess Meredith, Sylvia Miles, Beverly D'Angelo, John Carradine, Jerry Orbach, Jeff Goldblum, Eli Wallach, Christopher Walken, William Hickey and (very briefly) Tom Berenger.

A classic horror that has always seemed equally akin to Rosemary's Baby and Freaks to me.

Would have been better if the freaks had something to do besides pose and walk around aimlessly - they never seem menacing.

Still, a fun, atmospheric movie that makes a lasting impression.

I saw it in the theater and felt the exact same way. What a waste of talent and further diminishing of a once great film memory.
Saw it in the theatre too and was underwhelmed. I did enjoy it slightly more on a second viewing.  Micheal Fassbender was the best thing in it. The only other thing I found remarkable was that it had a character that shared my surname (Fifield). Never come across my surname in any book/film/TV series before!

The Haunting, with Liam Neeson. I fell asleep half way through, but my kids enjoyed it!

I loved the first one so much, I had to give this a go. More of the same, with less satisfying results. C. Thomas Howell is back, but Jake Busey is the Hitcher. Watchable,  I guess.

The Monolith Monsters, 1957 - The spaceship from IT Came From Outer Space re-lands as a meteorite near San Angelo, California and turns into a nightmare version of a kid's Magic Rocks.

Grant Williams, Lola Albright, Les Tremayne, Trevor Bardette, Phil Harvey, William Flaherty, Harry Jackson, Richard H. Cutting and, in her only movie, Linda Scheley.

The Scream Factory BLU-Ray doesn't disappoint.  The crisp picture is presented in your choice of 1.85:1 or the U.I. preferred 2.00:1.  All due respect to Universal-International's attempt to bury TV, I prefer the incorrect 1.85:1.  MM has a tall menace and a desert vista that occasionally features mountain tops in the distance.  I prefer to not loose the peaks.

I already had the German BLU-Ray, but I don't remember the soundtrack being so strong and sharp.  I suspect Scream has worked on that.

As promised, there were two new Commentaries.  The Tom Weaver Commentary pretty much lives up to his standard excellent output, with one caveat.  The choice was made to insert some baby giggles and a baby voice to read a couple lines of dialog from an unused early screenplay draft.   I found that distracting.  Tom pointed out the films numerous short-comings, while giving due credit to its strong points.  As I have noted here before, this ain't Citizen Kane.

The second Commentary is pretty much a mystery to me and is likely to remain so.  Maybe one of you can bear to sit all the way through it and let me know what YOU thought.  I really wish someone would.

The Still Gallery looked great and very familiar.

It was such a treat getting The Monolith Monsters in the mail today, I was moved to forgo my usual practice of saving my favorite new disc to watch last and move this one up to the head of the line.

Glad I did.

Who was the other commentator?

Professor Of Film Studies/Author Mark Jancovich ("Rational Fears: American Horror In The 1950s").  His lecture was as pedantic as his book title would suggest - and his delivery simply HAS to be experienced firsthand to fully appreciate.

Kinda looked like my stills.  I think some of the ones in the galley are pretty rare and stood a good chance of being mine.  But then photos from anyone with good copies would necessarily look the same.
