I happened to wake up at 3:30 am, Saturday morning. Couldn't fall back to sleep, so I turned on TCM. Amazingly, a film I had been interested in seeing for over 50 years was about to begin.

I saw a pictorial layout and summary in one of my monster mags from back then (possibly HORROR MONSTERS), but never caught up with the movie. So, needless to say, I was really going to stay awake.

THE STRANGLER (1964) Starring Victor Buono. I've always enjoyed Victor in every performance I've seen and I must say, he is excellent in this. The film is well written and directed. The rest of the actors are competent enough, with Ellen Corby wonderful as usual. It came out around the time of the real Boston Strangler and features an intro referencing similar killers. It's a fine little film, mostly forgotten, but should be better known. I intend to buy the Warner Archive disk  now. The only faults I can think of are it taking the police too long to put the pieces together and the  rather abrupt ending. Outside of that, I feel it's a lost classic. Victor shines and should not be missed.

Saw it only once, many years ago. Why does TCM always put these things on in the wee hours of the morning?

He did this between "Baby Jane" and "Charlotte ".

I hear ya. They call it TCM Underground for cult films. I would have set the DVR had  I known. Just got lucky. It did remind me of the old days though, staying up late to catch a scary movie.

I watched many a cult movie that began at 2:30 A.M.  I think it was the "Late, Late Show".

Watched almost all of W.C. Fields' films that way before he had a resurgence in popularity in the 70's.

(It was frustrating trying to explain movies like "The Bed Sitting Room" to people who went to bed at normal hours.)

Even though I love having so many films now at my instant access, it was kind of fun to have to work again to stay awake for a late film.

Well, this epic might just fall into the category of Fantasy, but here goes:

Die Nibelugen 1924. Both films:
Die Nibelungen: Siegfried and Die Nibelungen: Kriemhild's Revenge.

Countdown, 1967 - Solo astronaut U.S. mission to the moon.  Will he make it?  If he does, will he be sorry that he did?

James Caan and Robert Duvall (36 and already bald) vie for the right to be the one to take the risk.

This movie came out just two years before we actually did land two men on the moon.  From the looks of it, NASA could have saved an awful lot on equipment and control room personnel, if they had just followed the cinematic budget.

The DVD is crisp, with good sound and terrific picture and color.  This is a very nice looking film.  An OK watch.

He was sporting a lot of forehead when he played "Boo", 5 years earlier.
